Introductions are beginning. I took all the window blocking papers down and Marty and Goggles are seeing each other for the first time. They’ve had a week of blocked windows to (hopefully) kinda get used to each other’s scent. So far just staring with no hissing or theatrics so hoping that that’s a good sign. Just introduced our CH girl Taylor to him face to face. I figured this way I only really had to be concerned with him. Treats and catnip were involved and neither seemed to mind the other.

Some more weekly shelter love. This darling little lady is Trixie. She got lots of love from my daughter yesterday...and snack or two.

Don't know how you guys don't have a house with 137 cats in it. Trixie is adorable. They're all adorable. If I didn't still want sex once or twice a year I'd have more. Thank you to you and your daughter for doing this for them.

Oh my 2 daughters, particularly the youngest, would bring them all home if she could. These animals are lost little souls, as they've had there lives turned upside down. The strays haven't a clue what's going on. But I feel some comfort in knowing most will move on to a better life. The ones that pull at me are the older ones who've spent years with humans only to find themselves in strange place with no ability to understand why. Owner give-ups, death of an owner, life circumstances that no longer include the animal for whatever reason. Those are the tough ones to look at. The sadness in their faces, the longing for human contact that they had for so long. Even more sad are the ones who pull back from human interaction because they're so confused. We try to pay extra attention to the ones who will let us.

We have a couple of those right now. One is about 10-11 years old, declawed, and was dumped in a park. She spent a few days at the animal hospital for asthma and dehydration, and is on medication for the next 7-10 days which she hates. We have another one that we suspect was abused, and dumped outside (about 7, again declawed). He lost a fight with a possum and had a 3-4" gash that was stitched up when we got him. He had major socialization issues, but has come a long way thanks to my wife's care.

    Pardon the dirty carpet...

Grey one is a female named Phoebe. Acts more like a dog, ie demands belly ribs, walks on a leash, and walks around the house making a woof noise.

Flesh colored one is a male named Dewey. He acts like an 80 yr old man trapped in a cats body most of the time. He's about 10 months old in this picture and normally not this playful. I suspect him to be part norwegian forest cat, so he'll get pretty big.

That is just sick. What lowlife would disarm the cat then leave it to try and fend for itself?

We've been fostering for a little over 2 years, and it happens. Fewer and fewer are declawing, so it's improving.

This hit me in the feels. It's why my wife and I agree that after these two are gone, no more. We are not getting any younger. Same reason I no longer have a dog, and I have had dogs my entire life.

Fortunately a lot of veterinarians nowadays won't even do that anymore, I know most vets here in CA won't anyway. It's a cruel practice and it should be eliminated.

We have a grey Phoebe as well, but she acts just like a cat. Finds random places to sleep, loves high flat surfaces to escape her siblings, and demands pets on her terms lol.

I believe I read that last week New York became the first state to outlaw declawing. Hopefully other states will follow their lead.

Hey Chuck, my wife (25 years of Vet Tech) suggested just adding pumpkin to his diet, same food he’s always had. Is the prescription food supplied by the Vet?
