RL’s head movement looked great but he seemed too gassed or almost paralyzed and just couldn't let those punches go. I’ve never seen a pace like that at WW.

 

Yeah, Covington looked great. Like @The Real Moondog said, I've never seen such a pace like that at WW before.

No question who Usman should have his first defense against.

 

Usman and Colby were hilarious in there interview. Looking forward to the drama leading up to their fight. Lol

Even with the pace something seemed off. Robbie has been in 5 round wars with high pace and not looked like that. Colby has pace but not much "war". Robbie just didn't seem into it or motivated.

 

I agree but when was the last time you saw someone able to take Robbie down like that? Or, at least Robbie 2.0? He gassed from the grind of the TD attempts but I’d also agree that something was off - he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) let go of his hands. That whole thing was weird. Colby doesn’t appear to have a lot of power in those hands but Robbie’s face was pretty beat up afterwards.

I’ve always been a RL fan but with the elite wrestlers at the top of the WW division, he is not going to be a champion against so why keep feeding him these wrestlers? They’ve always been his kryptonite. Maybe take the Randy Couture “interesting fight” approach from here on and watching him get dragged all over the canvas was not interesting.

Also, it looks like he literally gave his neck up many times yet apparently Colby forgot how to sink in the rear naked choke....lol

 

Robbie has actually been taken down a lot in his career. Rory and jacare got 4 in 3rds, Hendricks got 5 in 5rds, Tim Kennedy got 5 in 3rds, kosheck even got 2 in 3 min haha.

It just more his lack of aggression when he didn't even have to be worried about Colby koing him. Just bob and weave and stare.

I still felt unimpressed by Colby after the fight though. I think it has to do with his lack or willingness to try and end the fight. He's fine with holding on when on top and baby shots standing. Was way more impressed by what Usman did to Woodley. GSP would make Colby look average.

 

Oh, I know he has been taken down, but nothing like what Colby did. His performance made me wonder if he was seriously injured going in. Something was off.

Colby played it pretty safe in the stand up but his cardio looked better than Usman’s to me. There is only one way to find out....

The thing Lawler said in the post fight interview pretty much sums it up. When asked what's next he flat out said "Get in a little bit of better shape". So, he was gassed from the first 2 rounds of just carrying Covington around. As far as him not launching any real offense or letting his hands go I think Covingtons jab had more snap then we realize. Add that to the fact the Covington had him timed really well and it makes you apprehensive to throw power shots. I don't think Lawler could have really done anything different other then not get taken down that much. And Covingtons pace was fucking heroic. Still hate the dude but you gotta give credit when it's due.

 

Nicely put. I saw Lawler say that and that is a very crafty way of saying he was gassed. Colby’s jab was working nicely but it’s also hard to let those hands go when they feel like they weigh as much as a cinder block.

Roll your knees to the side of your free arm. Still a tough choke to get out of.

 

Or just get your arm out of dodge to began with. The problem with the anoconda is it goes against what ever wrestler is taught from day one. If you get a hold of a single you keep driving. While it works great in wrestling it's exactly what a really good BBJ guy is looking for you to do. The only reason I know this is I got choked out by my roommate in college doing exactly that. It took me a good 20 single leg attempts before I learned to read what that sneaky little fucker was setting up. Once I figured that out he had even more shit for me to learn. lol

 

Colby is the reason Robbie had such a low output. The feints, jabs, and takedowns kept Robbie guessing all night. He wanted to pull the trigger but Colby had his number at every turn. It's the same thing that happened to Woodly when he fought Usman.
