I'm a contractor, and work somewhere with no military, except for our Air Force Colonel who runs the show.

Hitting the beach in the morning and then heading inland. We have all week. Basically checking in with everyone from GA, NC/SC, VA. Anything that's worth seeing we are down for. We normally hit up mountains, lakes, hike waterfalls ect, travel wise. Normally we are in the woods hunting and fishing at home haha.

Check out flagpole knob since you’re heading inland. Not sure if it’s on your route but it’s nice camping.

There are plenty of decent "day" hike spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP), in addition to the parkway just being a pleasant drive, Apple Orchard Falls is pretty short, does have a decent amount of "natural" and timber inserted steps to get down to the falls, but it's a nice little quick hike, https://www.hikingupward.com/JNF/AppleOrchardFalls/...and doesn't have the crowd draws as Crab Tree Falls (still worth going to) https://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/crabtree-falls-trail.htm.

If you venture out far enough west, there is Peaks of Otter hiking trails (Sharp and Flat Top Mtns.) are always enjoyable hikes, https://www.peaksofotter.com/things-to-do/activities/hiking. Also, not quite as far out/down the BRP, a cool loop or out and back hike is Devils Marbleyard, https://www.hikingupward.com/JNF/DevilsMarbleyard/.

A highlight and beautiful landmark of the Blue Ridge would be McAfee Knob...https://www.hikingupward.com/JNF/McAfeeKnob/, but not sure how long and how far you guys are planning to adventure down here.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I hope you all are enjoying one-half of the "southern" Commonwealths (KY being the other)...The weather seems to be looking great for the mountainous areas over the next week or so!

    FLAGPOLE TRIP 9/20-9/22

I am planning a flagpole trip and anyone is invited. Before I get into any details, we will be doing this trip a little differently.

You are responsible for getting yourself up there. I will not be coordinating a group ride to the top in any fashion.

I will be arriving at flagpole knob Friday late afternoon. Saturday I will be going down to Switzer lake for the day and kayaking about, hit up reddish knob for the sunset, and back to camp. We'll head out Sunday morning

Now, onto Flagpole details. There are 3 ways up to the top and here is where you start:

The hardest/fun way. Takes 1-2 hours depending how slow you drive. Start here

    38.473025, -79.062080

The easiest way. A stock subaru could come up this way in about 15 minutes.

    38.482195, -79.221149

Then the medium level, the switzer lake way, about an hour.

    38.572208, -79.144632

Camping is primitive, so bring anything you may need. If flagpole knob is taken, we will camp at meadow knob.

    38.506883, -79.154526

So far it is myself and my wife, and @ilubtimmyhos and his.
