Lifting question

Not to sound dumb cuz I know theres a hundred threads but im confused. Will the Bilstein 5100's alone give me the 1-2.5'' lift? Or are they used with a coil over lift? Can I use them front and rear? Is there another cost efficient option?

 

Yes you can use your stock coils with the 5100's. You can have 5100's for the rear but, they alone wont add any lift. you will need an add a leaf or block.

 

so basically the shock gives lift the block keeps it up? and for the front the coil obviosly creates the front end lift? New to building

WTF is "crip" LOL...sorry not following the "slang" I guess.
To clarify the "block" is for the rear only. It is inserted between your axle and the bottom of the leaf spring thus pushing the body of the truck higher in the air. which creates the lift. The rear 5100 shock will not lift your rear end.

The 5100 front shock was designed as a "leveling" shock to reduce or eliminate the factory built-in rake (low nose). It is specifically designed to do this with the stock coil springs. Check out the attached document, it explains it all.

The rear 5100s are just a regular shock that pairs with the rate/valving of the front shocks and provides additional length (travel) to work with lifts up to 3" I believe. But to lift the rear, you need to do an AAL (add-a leaf), block (not recommended), or new leafpack.

Springs provide lift. Shocks provide dampening. In the case of the Front 5100s the shock simply moves the lower spring seat to a higher location on the shock body to provide lift. For the rear, the shock and the spring work independently. So you need a block, shackle, or AAL to provide lift for the rear.

 

what is the highest you can set the billies without causing issues? I will never go off road with it, so is a 1 inch block okay in the back? Downsouth obviously sells these sets. But besides the shocks what else is needed?
