what to do with the $$$

i've been a member here for about 2 or 3 months and a taco owner for about 5 months, and i have loved every bit of it. but the only reason i own the taco is because of an accident i had in my ranger. i was in a situation where an old lady stopped in the middle of the road on a rural, but frequently used, highway. within about 1/4 a second, i had the options of veering into incoming traffic and more than likely dying, rear ending her at around 70mph and probably killing her, or hitting a 6ft deep ditch, risking my life, and giving up my truck. i took the last option, and sadly i was on liability, so it was basically a total loss. she caused a 5 car pile-up with 4 of those being totaled. however, nobody died or was seriously injured. you guys might mess with me for it, but i loved that truck. there wasn't anything special about it, but it was my first vehicle and i actually paid for it. it sucked big time to lose it. i saw no money since i was on liability, got 2 tickets from GA state patrol basically just because they had to blame somebody, and the lady tried to sue me, even though my truck didn't touch her car, lol. i mean i literally saved her life, risked mine, and lost my truck so she could live another day. sometimes it sucks when you try to do the right thing. i was pretty down....

then a white taco came into my life! haha. sorry to give you guys a life story, but just thought i'd share. but i have loved every minute of having the taco and haven't regretted it yet. it's much better than the ranger, but everybody knows that the first truck is like your first love, lol. i've done a few mods if you want to check them out. but my point is that the ranger has been sitting in my back yard since march, totaled. it hasn't been a total loss. i have got some money for the toolbox, seats, and just today, a guy just picked up the whole truck for scrap. i've got about $900 total in my possession from selling ranger stuff on craigslist, it's not great, but it's not a total loss from the wreck. my question is...what to do with the $$$ ? i have been blacking out a few things and want to finish that soon with some pro comp 7089's. i have been told that i need new UCA's by some people on here. but some others say no. i also have a pretty stout payment. i'm considering just putting that money on the balance to take a few payments off at the end or lower my monthly bill. maybe even save it till i can afford more expensive, nicer mods. i'm not really sure. i will be pretty much done modding the truck after i get the 7089's. besides when these duratracs wear out, i plan to go back with 285's.

all of these are things i can afford to do and are not bad decisions, i just would like to hear any input. i'm going to post a poll on these things, if you say "other," post what you think i should do for my truck.

I would have to say save your money. I have been spending too much in the truck... Need to start saving my pennies for a house!

 

Wow. Sorry to hear that. I too feel the same. Had a 2001 ranger edge. Lifted on 33's. I loved it. Oh and it was a 4.0 regard with 4.56's. I had liability only and rolled it onto it's side. It was still drivable but I sold it as is. I still wish I had that along with the taco.

I say put it towards your balance. Can't go wrong there.

Save it. You never know when something may happen & you need the money to make a truck payment. Don't pre pay. Just bank it.

Definitely save the $. Never know when you'll need it for something that might come up.

LR UCAs

 

Do you have at least 6 months of living expenses (including vehicle payments) in liquid savings? If not, put it there first.

Do you have any credit card debt? If so, put it there second.

Do you have a well funded retirement fund? If not, put it there third.

Is the truck paid off? If not, put it there fourth.

If all those are taken care of, congrats, buy some toys! $900 will get you a nice exhaust revamp (TRD CAI, DT Headers, TRD Catback) that'll sound sweet and make your driving experience mucho enjoyable.

 

Why are people saying you need UCA's?

yeah, be smart and save the money or use towards paying off the truck or bills. it's dumb to spend money when you have debt that should be paid off first... i know from experience.

your truck will become a black hole... once you start spending money on it you wont stop

 

Point Counterpoint. Just remember the Time-Value of Money Theory that states the longer you hold on to money, the less it's worth - even if you need it worse. You can get the UCAs now and then start saving - yeah that's right.

i've read on here that once you go over about 2" that you need them bc it will mess up your angles, cause bad alignment, and it points my wheels/tires inward bc of the camber

 

Its true...some trucks are different. 2-2.5" and above... UCAs are recommended

save the money. if you cant save it, because you are weak in the will power department..(i was) then dump it into the principle of truck. on paper, it isnt a good idea to buy unneccesary BS when you still owe money. get out of the consumer debt first.

If you don't have the home that you want to be living in for a long time paid off, or the truck paid off, put the $$$ towards either of those. You already have a nice truck....
