I have the AllPro IFS skid up front. I like that the transmission skid is relatively cheap to add (like $100). It has held up well for my use, but I'm pretty easy on it. I'd like to add the transmission skid as well as the x-fer case, but that's more money.

If you want quality, you want BudBuilt. I'll leave it at that.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
That’s not a good response. If that were the case then my taco wouldn’t have those bomb ass Demello bumpers on it that everyone keeps asking about lol

I'd stop listening to whoever is telling you that. There is a HUGE difference in quality of chinese steel and american steel. I've seen skids that took repeated hits and kept going and I've seen skids get deformed and pushed into whatever they were supposed to be protecting.

BudBuilt is about as tried and true as you can get and they don't really seem to advertise...though they were highly regarded when I first joined TW about a decade ago. Bonus: They are located in Western NC and just a few hours drive from here.

Bud really uses his stuff and makes modifications based on their experience and customer feedback. The tradeoff is that they are heavy, so forget about gas mileage. They do make stuff out of aluminum, but even they will tell you that it won't hold up as well.

Man, I did not realize they were so close to my mountain house. It’s like right down the street!
I will have to stop by and check them out.

The next time I see you, I'm challenging you to a best of 5 thumb wrestling match to determine who gets rights on "who joined TW first."

Ive got SOS gear underneath my truck. While my reasoning was the cost and location, they are super solid skids. Time will tell how they hold up, but was extremely satisfied with them after this past weekend.

    No budget.
I do like how some integrate a little door for you to change your oil. Yes yes, I know this is a failure point in the worse possible place. But it is convenient for my taco, as it’s more of a long distance camper than a crawler

In that case I have some steel skids with your name on them. Already meticulously prepped followed by multiple coats of rattle can primer/paint.....$1k.

Seriously though I'm mulling it over.

Just don't get aluminum skids unless it's like 1/2" thick if you play in the rocks a lot

This is why I have AllPro. I very rarely wheel and when I do it is very rarely anything anyone would consider hardcore. I figured it would be "good enough" that it will protect what it is supposed to protect enough for me to back up and take another line. The cost (10% off along with free shipping and a hoodie) made the deal too good to pass up.

I can't recommend SOS offroad concepts enough for skids. There's no door on their skid, but I beached my truck dropping into a creek on a boulder. The noise was fucking awful, I thought I broke the truck. I scraped off of it and checked for damage... Nothing, just a dent in the IFS skid and scraped off paint.

I have SOS everything, front bumper, IFS skid, mid skid, tcase skid, sliders, and HC rear with swingout. I ordered it all unfinished for cheap and did it all with roll-on bedliner so I can touch it up easily.

A huge advantage of skids is how easy it is to jack up the truck. So many jack points. You can jack off of any SOS skid, they'll support the truck no problem.

If you're willing to wait, they run a 20-40% off sale at least yearly. Just gotta watch on their vendor subsection for it to post.

+1 for SOS! If you are going to ATR, they are doing a 15% off sale and delivering items to you there. The IFS, mid, and tcase will only cost you like $560 or so all together.

According to the link here it looks like the 3rd gen skids now have doors on the IFS skid for oil.

a lot of bad ass stuff
I only have experience with RCI skids. Would I buy again yes, just not aluminum.
NEVER EVER BUY ALUMINUM SKIDS. I started off with aluminum thinking I was doing myself a favor by cutting weight. Well I’ve since replaced the transfer and transmission skids with reenforced steel skids.
