If you want to look in to the 5160s, look at the 7100s, they’re essentially the same but the 7100s are rebuildable and can be valved how you want them. Not sure if they make a bolt on version for the Tacoma though. I’ll be buying a set for my truck soon with stiffer valving to fix my body roll. Scotty is getting my current 5125 shocks when I do his relocation.

 

I don’t think the 7100 comes in a bolt on configuration anyway... but you can’t go wrong with Bilstein. The 5160 would be a definite improvement for sure.

 

Could you run those 5160s with the rear lifted 2", for instance, with a Dakar or Deaver pack? Or just for stock config?

 

I'm not sure on that. I'd check compressed and extended lengths of them and compare it to the B110s or any other shock used for lifted applications. I know I ran stock length 5100s with an AAL and the shock limited the suspension's down travel which is a real no-no if you can avoid it.

 

If you want to use a leaf pack to its fullest, the only real way to not have to extend bump stops is to do a shock relocation.

I'm eventually going to change my rear packs out to something that will give me around 2" over stock. @TacoAlaMode got some custom built springs from somewhere I can't remember, but he seems to be really happy with them. I also want a shock that will handle all the droop that the new spring pack will offer. I guess B110s unless I hear of any other options out there. I've seriously been looking at Dobinsons too.

 

There's the answer. But comparing the collapsed length, you'll have to extend your bump stop an extra 2 inches or you'll eat that b110 alive under hard compression. Just things to consider. Now if the leaf pack is thicker, that will help as well since it'll basically "extend" your bumpstop. You just need to make sure you account for everything.

 

When I get new leaf packs, I'll add the u-bolt flip kit alongside it, since I'll already have everything apart.

I ran the wheelers bumps with their ubolt flip on my deaver expedition stage 3 leafs and they were just fine paired with the b110s. I know a bunch of guys that ran that combo with the dakars as well and did just fine. The wheelers kit spaces the bump up some to accommodate for the collapsed length. Still had plenty of bump and droop.

 

Surprisingly mine was pretty straight forward. The house was solid as far as roof, ac, foundation, and no mold. It just needed to be badly updated as everything’s outdated.

If you’re on the fence do inspection pending and if they don’t fix even one thing you like them to you can walk away and just lose inspection money if I understand correctly.
