Anyone in here get the rear window of the gfc tinted? If so, how much did it cost?

I just called 3 local places,
    $100
    $125
    $140

The place that said $100 did my whole truck (DC) for $200 (9 years ago) so when they said $100 for just the one window I thought that was really high. Now that I’ve called other places, I think everyone is really high lol.

I ordered a roll of 20% Ceramic Tint off Amazon for $40 maybe? and did it myself. Can't remember if I got high beforehand or not. Sure I had a beer open. Turned out great!

I’m leaning towards trying to do it myself.

Did you just clean the window really well, spray windex on the window, squeegee the tint, razor blade around the perimeter?

Pretty much - was like applying those old phone screen protector films.

Started out by tracing the "rough" outline bigger than I would actually need (couple inches in all directions) and cut that shape out. Then cleaned really well and did a final wipe down with acetone.

For lube I liberally applied my clay bar lubricant since I had it on hand and it seemed like it would work - but other solutions probably would work better.

Peeled off about a 1/3 of the backing layer and kinda floated it on the window while I peeled off the rest. Spraying both sides of the tint while I went seemed to help keep it from curling back on itself.

Squeegee'd a bunch. Razor the edges. More squeegee (use lube so you don't tear the film). Give up on perfection and drink more beer.

Forget about it for a few days, then realize most of the tiny remaining bubbles are gone and it's 99% perfect!

100% the way to go on a window like this. Being a flat piece of glass, this window should be a breeze (relatively).

I'm a ways off from picking options, but is there much of a point of the windows? The one closest to the cab looks so small that it would make the rear view mirror ineffective. And when I am camping, I usually have stuff back there and can't see out anyway. Any thoughts from people with and without the windows? I am thinking about forgoing the window and just doing the mod to make my rear view camera manually switchable so that I can leave it on all the time.

I fought this a ton when ordering. Ultimately decided no windows was better for me. I thought it would matter a ton no being able to see out the rear, but really it's been overall an improvement. Rear camera is a must for backing up and for parking. Anytime camera mod is fine if you want it, but you can just adjust your side mirrors and not drive so aggressively and never have an issue; I personally just move my head a little more to see behind me through the side mirrors. Saves you $400 you can spend elsewhere too.

I debated too. Ended up with no widows. Haven't missed them. I had a canopy with windows previously. You can see a little better with them but no great loss without. I have an anytime camera on mod and it's great for checking a trailer or the bike rack.

I dig my windows too, don't regret the extra cost at all.

I originally planned on a single window next to the cab to check on my pup in the rear. Ended up buying one with both windows. It’s quite nice to have the flexibility and the visibility is surprisingly great through the rear view. But 90% of the time I have a cover over the rearmost window just so people aren’t poking their head where it doesn’t belong. You can’t go wrong with either decision, the truck is just as driveable without the window as with it.

I have windows. The visibility is actually pretty good, but it’s really not necessary. The side mirrors are great especially with bsm

With nothing blocking it in the bed it's very useful for using the mirror.

I ended up getting my rear window tinted by a local shop that did the rest of the tint on my truck 9 years ago. $100 and about an hour.
I thought about doing it myself but was having a hard time sourcing the material. too many bad reviews on Amazon and too large of rolls on eBay.

I went with 20% and i think its great. can't really see in from the outside, but the rearview mirror is still useful. hopefully my arb fridge will be happier now that its not in direct sun.

Been having lots of leaking. The way the seals were originally installed were not the best, plus the seals used were for camper shells 200lbs or less. You can see how flat the original gasket is. Upgraded to higher capacity seals and cut two triangles on the front most corners so the seal is all one unit rather than 3 separate pieces. Will test, but this is how it should've been from the get go. No sure how water resistant everyone else's have been, but you can see the amount of water intrusion I was having in the first photo.

I seriously considered the vagabond for two reasons lead time and no access to bed when we are sleeping without removing a portion of the mattress as there are three of us and if my daughter was sleeping down there I would want at least a small opening. The reasons I decided to make a deposit on the GFC were I like the cabana, price and we’ll after talking it through with my wife. Our daughter is 14 the GF is almost two years out so there may not be to many trips between pick up and her not wanting to come with us or going away to school. And until then one of us can sleep in the bed.

Worked on a new project this weekend. It’s not done yet, but it’s a start. I’ve got some hinges on order, the same style that GFC uses. I’ve obviously got to paint the vent where the Goal Zero Battery is, and still have a switch panel to install.

    First mod, party lights.

    IMG_8717.jpg

Has anyone set up their GFC lighting to use a prop switch(I think that's what they're called) like this: https://www.siraweb.com/gas-prop-switch

Looking to have lights come on when I open the rear door to GFC.
