Yeah, that uninsulated garage is going to be a sauna to work in. Humidity provided by your sweat!

 

The detached garage is not a concern. It has a single 20A circuit now, and other than what you see on the wall there, it has a single duplex outlet on the exterior on the same conduit run. I might have a subpanel installed and pull more power out there, or just wait for the dream build. The house is 1932 build, but it has a new 200A panel with plenty of empty breaker slots and GFCI to both bathrooms which were redone in the late 90s and like a year ago. There are a few rooms with original knob and tube (and no grounding obviously), but it looks like new in the attic and has not been covered by insulation. We'll upgrade all that eventually.

 

Anything you can can get done in a week I can get done in 6 months.

At least it has no ventilation, either. But I have one of these, and am accustomed to laboring in high heat, if unavoidable.

I like the doors

 

No, the loft is not. The stuff that is up there now was mostly left behind by the PO and is lightweight stuff. The joists are few in number (4) and undersized for an unsupported 15-ft span. At least one is visibly sagging at center. When I was working on the electrical, I realized I could strum the front joist with my finger like a guitar string. The vertical straps from the joists to the rafters are flimsy scrap T&G likely tacked on by a previous owner and provide no structural function whatsoever, other than perhaps adding downward tension to the rafters to encourage the roof to sag.

If I can be bothered for the short term, I would strip off the straps, jack the joists to level, and sister them. Then I would likely add collar ties to the rafters above them, and then add 2x4 vertical straps to actually provide upward support to the collars because the load would be carried down to the top sills by the stronger sistered joists.

But then I'd just be creating future scrap.

 

You could always support the sagging joists with shelves.

 

At our rate of project completion we could put our minds together, turning back the hands of time, thus doing it right the first time.

 

Me too, but they have some longitudinal cracks in the hinge-side stiles, various areas of mending straps and plates, and flimsy diagonal support cables that I'd replace with something like turnbuckles.

They work OK, one drags a tad on the ground at center for a couple inches. But security is dodgy at best, as is weather resistance.

Not sure would reuse them as primary vehicle doors. I lover the rails and wheels, but maybe the actual doors would be better off being attached to a larger framed door structure. But that would be heavy as hell.
