Joined the f5 Club today! However scs didn't have any of our lug nuts in stock... this got me thinking, why not get some of the open end lugs that I've seen guys using on these. (I think they look nice.) While looking I couldn't find any open ended lugs that were ET. What is the general consensus, run the closed end et lugs like scs sells or will I be okay with the open end non et lugs? Im going for safety over looks and have never ran non et lugs with any aftermarket wheels.

I’m kind new to aftermarket wheels, just wondering why do they usually call for extended thread? Are aftermarket wheel mounting surfaces thicker?

Get the closed end if your worried. Both should be fine but open ended does allow for some moisture to pass through, could make the lugs a bit sticky when taking them off.

I believe this is the reasoning although I am not 100% sure.

Thats what Ill probably end up doing, the moisture doesn't bother me but thread engagement does.

My understanding is it depends on the wheel and the depth of the lug channel. If its deep enough the lug will mount to the extent of the length of the chamfer, which might leave a thread gap if the wheel mounting face is deeper than the chamfer length. Its easier to draw than to write the explanation. Some wheels though have the chamfer run almost all the way through, leaving no room for the ET portion of the lug.

It makes sense, the non et will fit in either channel but the rims designed with a thicker mounting surface like the picture on the left can use the et.

I ran open Mutekis on my S2000 and never had any issue, but it never went out in the rain. I also swapped the tires during the winter and rotated tires L to R every 3k miles. So they never had a chance to get gummed up.

    Open looks better to me.

They appear to be 265/70x17 if I am making out the sidewall lettering correctly. Where is this pic from?

Anyone have photos of a 265/70 on the 17x8.5 F5’s? I’ve been through a bunch of threads on here and I’ve found a couple, but I’m just looking for more

My set shoes up Monday and I’m trying to make a tire decision. Thank you in advance!

I don't see a lot of 3rd Gens w/ the 17x9s....... is there a fitment issue that a BMC can't solve. Looking to do a 285/70 tire on a stage 3 icon lift

I got mine yesterday as well but, I definitely missed this handy little bit of information... Needless to say I screwed up and my new F5 have some lovely chips in them from the balancer... :bananadead:
