I just changed my oil in my truck for the first time on Saturday. I used the Engine Flush, "25,000 mile" Amsoil, and a K&N filter. Everything went smoothly and all is well so far...I just had a question regarding oil change/filter change intervals.

How often do yall drain and refil with Amsoil? (I know it's rated at 25,000 but that seems obsurd). I don't do any towing and only use 4x4 occasionally.

I went back an forth between the K&N, Toyota, and Mobil1, but was wondering how often you changed them? Seen any better results with another filter besides the K&N and Amsoil combo?

    Thanks in advance!

I just started using the same oil (0W30) 25000 mile or 1 year, I am changing only the filter at intervals stated on filter. ie toyo filter at 5000 miles, K& N should be on package,Fram synthetic filter good for 6875 miles(11000 KM), amsoil filters good guaranteed for 1 year or 25000 miles. I have 3000 miles on the oil and filter, so far.

K&n isn't on the box but I would imagine it would be 'dealer recommended'. I guess I'll change it every 5k.

    I'm using 5w30 BTW.

    Thanks again

you are correct in saying that the oil is rated @ 25,000 miles, but the Mann filter is not. The filter is what's going to give you your 1 yr change interval. You will still need to change every 5K miles.

yes, the EaO filters are rated for 25,000 miles, not the mann filters that are cartridge style.

Amsoil told me last week they don't have a EAO 25k mile filter for the 2010 Tacoma yet. They are working on it and will have it soon. They recommend the Mann filter rated for 7500 miles. I went with the SAE 7500 with the Mann ML1003 filter i believe. I will switch to the 25k oil when the filter is avaliable.
Amsoil has a program where you can send a sample of your oil in for testing to let you know how its working. I personally changed it every 15k in my Ford edge to be on the safe side. Never sent it in for testig

    that's what I just said :)

Use the Mann filter and change it out every 5K miles (might as well, instead of 7,500) if you go to the dealer to get your 5K service done anyways. Otherwise, do it every 7,500K.

I run the Amsoil 5w-30, 25k interval and change it once annually. Infact, that's what it says to do on the bottle, either change it once annually or once every 25k or 15k for 'severe use'.

I never put more than 10k on my vehicles a year, so I always do it once annually.:)

you guys have to understand that the factors in the oil change intervals don't just have to do with the oil, but more importantly the filter you're using. I've actually reused oil before and just changed the filter. The filter is doing most of the work.

so, if you change once a year @ 10K miles, you better have a filter that is rated for that kind of an interval or you're doing more harm than good.

That's right, you have to get a filter that's designed to go the longer distance or simply get one that you change out more often and refill with a little oil each time.

Thank you for all the replies...I guess the best thing to do is just change the filter, no matter what the brand, at 5,000 miles. I will probably go with something cheaper next time, say Toyota. Perhaps I can save the 'liquid gold' Amsoil buy using the cut-in-half bottle technique...
