It's a "dumb" electrical circuit with no delay. Oil pressure switch is low = oil warning light is on. The light is on if you have the ignition key in "on" with the engine not running, or while cranking.

I'm surprised the engine made it 25 miles before stalling out lol.

Nah it came on when I got to work. Literally as I was pulling into the parking lot.

The light is actually on until it is turned off by sufficient oil pressure read by the oil pressure sending unit.

    That's weird?

The light should have stayed on because it wasn't reading any oil pressure that would have caused it to turn off. It's like when you turn your key to on. The oil pressure light comes on because it is getting power, but it isn't being turned off by oil pressure sending unit.

Well... not to re-litigate this whole case. It wasn't quite this simple.

    1) The light didn't come on until I got to work. 2) I towed it BACK there to Valvoline where they're on the record saying it was my sensor. When they popped the hood... the filter was crooked. They put a new one on and said "good as new" - I towed it to my dealer immediately.

They tried to claim I was negligent, when in reality I showed in good faith I followed fairly basic common sense. The lights were on for a total of about 200-ft.

It didn't help Valvoline how they handled it after the fact. Covering up the fact they didn't put oil in the car (apparently there is a code Toyota's throw specifically when you drain them of oil, cause some kind damage, then put oil back in after the fact. This is what the Master Mechanic brought into court, because apparently they've seen it happen before.) Then the evasions and Jerry Springer-show antics of the Valvoline owner... it was... surprising.

at any rate... I won. Few people do. I fought it with facts and evidence. Wish it didn't happen. But it did.

Edit: And I'm not a mechanic. I have slept at a Holiday Inn Express tho.

Well in my eyes - and I have ZERO proof of this - the Master Mechanic said they put no oil back in after draining it. What I surmise happened, is they put the filter on crooked... and it drained out as I was driving.

Well l wasn't trying to give some kind of recitation of a two-year long court case. There's a LOT more to it.

Edit. And I thought it should be clear that I'm being pretty loose. You can't "Murder" a vehicle. I'm being euphemisti.... why am I literally having to spell this out and it's not even the topic?

Are you willing to ship out those taillights? (or overhead console if it doesn't have the temp gauge?)

You know, I'm going to be honest...

I never thought I'd *really* love a vehicle like I loved this truck. It was my first truck, and damn, I intended to drive it forever. The way it all went down felt gross. I don't wish it on anyone - especially on this forum. Which is funny... it's been two years, I lurked around here and I see all the love you guys have for Tacomas and now I feel left out. I discovered you guys too late.

Having resolution matters. I just have this one last thing to finish it. My next Tacoma will bring me back here :)

Yeah it's fortunate your court battle is over, otherwise the stuff posted in this thread would've upended your case

And this would be just a malpractice suit against a doctor if it were a person, which would've led to more drama lol. Doubt even manslaughter charges would be laid, never mind first- or second-degree murder.

This thread has certainly been amusing.

What would be really fun would be to see the transcript of the "master mechanic" describing how the engine debris got into the transmission. Spit a rod out the back of the block and into the transmission? Highly unlikely. Rods go out through the side of the block or through the oil pan. Engine debris got into the cooling system, forced it's way through the transmission cooler in the radiator, and into the cooler lines? LOL That would be some kind of Penn & Teller shit.

Bottom line, there's nothing wrong with your transmission. Put a $2500 used engine in it and sell it for $12,000. Even if you have to pay a shop $1500 to do the swap, you're still netting $8,000, instead of selling it as is for $1,000

    I have no gag order...

Okay... so this guy (he'll remain nameless). When I call him up, way at the beginning of all this, he starts telling me off on the phone when I accuse his shop of screwing up my truck. He tells me he has proof - video evidence. I said "Great! I'd like a copy of that video so I can get some other independent eyes on it." he tells me hell no. I asked him again, and tell him - look I just wanna get my truck on the road. He says - "I'll let you come see the video in my office under my supervision." I tell him I'm not a mechanic, and he says too bad, then I can't have the video. Then I say - Well I'll be forced to get my lawyer to get the video if he's not willing to just do right by me. He goes full volcano-mode and tells me to fuck the hell off, and hangs up on me. I call him back - and it goes the same way about four times.

We go back and forth via my lawyer for another year and a half. This guy, he looks like Vince McMahon's little brother, but a foot shorter and not enough 'roids, but all the hype - he shows up to arbitration. So this is well into him stonewalling me - and the court demands arbitration which we both agreed to. He sits there, and when we finally get called up, the Judge asks us if we're willing to arbitrate. I'm say - "definitely!" when they ask him if he's willing to arbitrate - he goes FULL LEONIDAS 300 - "NOOOOOO! I will GIVE THEM NOOOOOTHING!!!!" making big ZERO gestures with his hands at the judge. And I quietly said - "I'll accept that as their first offer. I'm still willing to negotiate." Then he turns to me and yells - "ZERO!!! You will get ZEROOOOO from me!" I was waiting for for Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka to come flying down from the rafters and land on me.

The Judge looks at him, totally irritated, "If you didn't want to arbitrate, whey did you agree to this arbitration hearing and have us all come down here and stop our lives to do this?" His response "Because I wanted it to be clear I owe this man NOOOOOOTHING!!!" he said with his best Rowdy Roddy Piper impersonation.

I just shook my head... so it went to trial.

Then the trial - he decided to show up without his lawyer, because he felt "that sure". Before opening statements he complimented the judge on his robes as in "Looking good in those robes." The Judge was clearly a good ol' boy and did not like it... at all. He then proceeds to tell the judge in his opening testimony that 1) He has no idea why this trial is happening 2) because he's never even heard of me, has never talked to me and I was some guy that came out of nowhere to sue him for some made up story he ruined my truck. Because he didn't have his lawyer, he didn't know how to question me or any of the other witnesses on the stand. It was comical - I got him to admit while *I* was on the stand that he lied repeatedly about his own written testimony and testimony during opening statements, that in fact he'd interacted with me many times both verbally and via email (which of course I provided) then I caught him lying in his own cross-examination by him trying to testify from the bench (which the Judge and my lawyer called him on - but it was TOO LATE LUTHOR!) he was actually debating me like a pro-wrestler before the Judge made him stop.

I admit it was fun to tell the court how many times he told me to "fuck off" every time he asked me to describe our phone conversations (that he said never happened). Then the expert testimony happened... his manager, and mechanic, got caught lying saying he never serviced my vehicle. I provided the paperwork to show not only did he do it, but he supervised the guys that covered up for it the next day and signed off on the receipt I got for "fixing the oil filter". My experts were called one by one, and made the guy look like a fool. In reality, he was like this old-man "bro" saying nonsensical shit trying to deny pretty much everything. Unfortunately I proved twenty-two pieces of evidence, he submitted zero. In the end, this clown lied so much I was forced to get called to the stand three times to correct his allegations that it was my fault. AND he said that I was hiding from him for two years and I concocted all this and was trying to "shake him down".

Finally the Judge got pissed on said "enough." He told him he could appeal - but it would cost him double, intimating that if he appealed, he'd lose because he'd proven to be totally unwilling to arbitrate. He was pissed because it cost him more than the truck was worth - to which I pointed out, that we had a offer on the table from Toyota (and eight other shops in the area), with the open possibility that if he wanted to have his own guys do the work - I'd have happily done that to save him money. But then he had to lie about repeatedly and pretend I was dodging him. The Judge threw the book at him. Court fees, attorney fees, car damages. all of it.

Seriously this guy was like a hype-man for WWE. It was funny from the outside. But maddening realizing this was what you're dealing with while inside this process.
