My event occurred when I owned my 2005 GMC Sierra and got my first look at the 2016 Quicksand Access Cab! The rest is history!

Hey, at least he told her that she doesn’t want it.

But I agree, shady move to pawn off a known issue.

    Too few to list.
Whenever I made a left or right turn and the 3G Tacoma is on 3rd gear instead of 2nd lugging the engine around.

I had the engine replaced twice on my 2014 Forester. First time due to high oil consumption, and the second because the techs screwed something up with the first replacement and the valvetrain ended up with a loud ticking noise. Took the car in to the dealer a total of 12 times over 8 months to have them diagnose it, got Subaru corporate involved, and eventually they replaced the engine a second time. Second one also made strange noises so I got fed up and traded the car in for my Taco.

So yeah, two engine replacements and 15 trips to the dealer on a Forester with 24,300 miles.

Was that the small block replacement? My ‘13 Impreza had the same oil issue....the replaced the small block (which I understood to be the middle third of the block). I sold it in full disclosure and bought my truck

My 2012 F-150 V6 ecoboost with 50K miles on it went into limp mode all the time (condensation in the turbo system). Had it flashed 6 times at the dealer. The final straw was merging onto the freeway towing my boat, pushing down the gas medal, resulting in the truck accelerating to 70mph and the RPMs getting stuck at 5500 until the next available exit about 3 miles down.....(truck was paid off) traded it in at Toyota who gave me $2K over blue book. In my mind I only paid $14K for my Tacoma.

My Dad's 02 Chevy Tahoe had some engine issues at 80K miles. We found this out as when pulling the drift boat we got home and the entire front of the boat was covered in oil spewing out of the tail pipe. He put a quart of oil in it every week for a few months before selling it

Like every used car dealer never did that. Yeah right. Where do you live, Fantasy Land?
Welcome to the real world Skippy.

I did the same with a 2000 Chevy Malibu. When I bought it new, I had them install an OEM radio upgrade. After six months or so, the radio starts to intermittently crap out and come back on when going over a bump... So, of course they messed up with the install. I take it back and they say it's all good. As time goes on it gets worse. One winter night, out of frustration and trying to get it to work, I punched the dash, which causes a huge crack, all the way to the windshield. After some more time, all the dash warning lights would come on all at once and start blinking and the beep tone would start to come on while driving. Since it happened most of the time but not all of the time, I waited till it was all clear one morning and drove it to the Toyota dealer and bought a Sienna.

Dont know. Bought it used and payed extra for the warranty (thank god). I drove it for about 10,000k miles. I Complained about engine studder, was taking to dealer and put into drive and truck would not go forward or reverse. Towed to dealer. Dealer kept for a week and replaced transmission and asked me to pick it up. I arrived, put into drive, and again it would not drive forward or backwards. They kept for another week or two and said that engine was bad, they put a new one in and called me to pick up. They did like 12000k in work and then I traded it in for my tacoma. This was at about 65000k miles.

I suppose, but not super beneficial where I live: hills, mountains, and high elevation.

Agreed. I never fully release the clutch in reverse unless I'm in 4Lo. I did it once just to see how fast it would be for a laugh.

OP I wouldn't be afraid to slip the clutch in reverse. It's not optimal but it's not going to roast the clutch if you only do it for short distances at low RPM on flatish ground. That being said, if you are on a huge grade or have a bunch of weight hooked up I would take the time to put it in 4Lo for the sake of saving clutch material.

Had a 2007 Tundra. Around 70kish miles, it was going into Limp Mode. Apparently there is some type of blower motor under the front passenger wheel well that warms up the catalytic converter because before it warms up I guess it pollutes .0000000000000001% more. If it goes out, the truck, still able to fully run perfectly, goes into Limp Mode (environmental nutjobs to thank). Now, Toyota had a TSB and it could have been fixed for free, but I was so pissed that it was engineered to go into Limp Mode even though the truck COULD run perfectly I traded it in.

I was getting there backing a 6000lb boat around my property with the 4x4 binding up and/or tearing all the grass to shit but my 2LO mod harness and switch just showed up so the Taco gets a reprieve unless I snap the rear axles sending all the torque through half the truck. Whomever chose the reverse gear ratio for the 6MT is clearly a sadist having a joke on us.

That is why I have an automatic. Try backing up a hill with a travel trailer! I had two trucks with MT and couldn’t stand this. So my Taco is my first auto in 35+ years as a daily driver.

Nah, I’m keeping my Tacoma. I really do like it aside from the silly reverse gear ratio and the ratio jump between first and second. I’m just used to driving lower-geared manuals combined with low RPM/high torque engines.

So I’m in that “slow, low RPM lugger” mindset I guess. Heck, even my ‘79 Toyota pickup had way better gear ratios and low RPM torque! I could fully engage the clutch in reverse without any gas. Like others have said, we’re not in reverse that long so why not make the ratio a granny gear??

I was attempting to express this frustration with dry humor in this post but it likely came off wrong. I should have been prepared for the “you don’t know how to drive a manual”, “you’re driving it wrong” or “then sell it and leave” responses - but it’s all good!
