A local and supposedly reputable mechanic told me today that rotors on newer cars need to be changed every single time you change pads and can’t be machined. WTH kind of nonsense is this crap?

 

Just dropped the horse off at the black smith's shop. He'll re-shoe her tomorrow, and she can come home tomorrow evening.

 

I haven't seen a shop with a brake lathe I'm forever. The materials they're made out of today may prohibit them from being done, but I imagine it's just cheaper and faster to replace rotors. Every time you replace pads? I don't think so.

Relocated backup camera tonight without cutting anything. Just took it out of tailgate and ran back under truck and ran up by rear passenger light and mounted to license plate bracket on the rigd ultraswing. Worked perfectly.

Read through all the threads and was like wait a minute so when i got Home i took It all apart and rerouted it and bam works better then the original mount in tailgate. Rear tire carrier is within 1-2 inches of red line. Time for a beer.

 

Yeah I was disappointed because I can walk to this guy and all the yelp reviews rave about the crazy good honesty and integrity of this shop. This left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I may give them the benefit of the doubt, but I feel like he was trying to pull a quick one on my wife.

 

I think Craftsman Auto used to be Curry's automotive and sold out to Mr. Tire believe and now that the no compete is over Craftsman Auto is the new brand....

 

My shop still has a lathe and highly recommend replacement vice turning the rotors on the newer vehicles. Something about cheap Chinese steel or something like that...

 

Just putting this out there... Not sure if they are gonna rub or not yet. But if they do, can anyone do a cab mount chop for me?

The lathe run off electricity or foot pump?

 

Has anyone found a transmission skid plate that does not require removing the two anti-rack brackets?

 

anti-rack? Why do you want to keep them?

 

Why would Toyota have included them if the engineers did not design them into strengthening the frame?

 

Because I don't think they're there to strengthen the frame. I think they're there to help in catalytic converter theft, in which case some (like mobtown) skids provide some damn good coverage.
