Where'd you get that info? Unless you're maybe talking about the early ones that had condensation in the intercooler, you got some bad info. The ecoboost family is just as reliable as anything else on the road.

Oh, I see you've got some compelling input to offer. Glad to see you're ready for a mature debate... lol

Also, yes, it is a compliment. It's a compliment to the truck more than the forum, but the fact that I, a lifelong blue blooded Ford fan, has intentionally spent my money on a Taco is a testament to how good the truck is. I like to think it's also a testament to the fact that I'm not a child anymore that blindly bashed any brand that isn't my own, as well as any that dare own or defend any other brand but my own. Just sayin'

This hits me right in the feels. They need to bring this to the US and not make any changes to it.

I was right behind a Colorado at a red light the other day, the top of the tailgate seemed like it was even with the sunvisors in my truck, don't understand the crazy high bed sides or ass high stance either.

I have seen two danger rangers in the wild.

1.) short version - Saw a Ranger and turned to my wife and said I want to test drive it. She now it is ugly, don't waste our time.
2.) Saw one yesterday and the ass end was so high up as mentioned, I simply just laughed at it. What a useless design and not user friendly. One cannot reach over the side to touch the bottom of the bed unless your Shaq. Overall, ugly and silly design, should have made it like the older design that is actually worker friendly.

I "get my info" from a close friend of mine who is the head mechanic at a very good independent shop. The shop has seen over the years a disproportionate number of Ford F150's with ecoboost engines in for repairs after the manufacturers warranty expires. The number of GMC/Chevy's, Rams, Tundra's, F150's are pretty darn even in my area. So it's not like there are 10 F150's for every 1 GMC. When I told him I was truck shopping last fall his exact words were "please don't buy an ecoboost". I owned a 2004 F150 that was the most dependable and reliable vehicle I've owned to date. My friend is a long time Ford lover. So no 'anti Ford' bias here. The ecoboost engines produce great power for their displacement but it does come at a long term reliability cost.

What long term issues? The turbos as a whole last a long time. There have been a few failures but those are mostly tuned guys. Some had leaking lines to the turbos. These motors aren't perfect but to put a blanket statement about them being unreliable is dumb.

Kinda ironic you have a GN as your avatar though... but if it's your post some pics. Love GN's and T Types.

It does serve function but maybe not what you want it for. Those higher sides allow higher items to fit under a tonneau cover.

I fall into this same boat. Only owned Fords my entire life and still have my 01 Cobra I bought new. I put that to the side and decided the Tacoma was the best mid-size truck for me. That doesn't make anything that's not a Tacoma a POS though.

First off, no that is not my GN. Just a pic I swiped off the 'net. I wish I owned a GN, GNX, or even 'just' a Regal. I do however have a great love for those cars. I like the body styling of the late 70's through late 80's Cutlass and Regals. Obviously the performance of the GN/GNX's, which was fantastic for it's day as a factory built car, is just icing on the cake.

As for the F150's, I know he has seen cam phaser issues, the fore mentioned condensation in the intercooler, carbon build on the valves and he has seen several turbo bearing failures. To the best of my knowledge these have been bonestock F150's. I know some of the condensation issues have been with IDNR patrol trucks. I never said they were unreliable off the lot. I said they can be unreliable after roughly 100,000 miles. And for the poster in this thread who said that no one keeps their vehicle that long, well a lot of folks around here do including me.

I wasn't thinking about the carbon on the valves. That one is a genuine concern for the ranger if you don't use quality oil. The new f150s and many other newer EcoBoost engines with dual injection eliminate that, but unfortunately the Ranger is still direct injection only, so the ones the belong to owners that think "oil is oil" will almost certainly have crusty valves at 100k. In fact, I'd wager a lot of ecoboost failures can be attributed to using low quality oil or poor maintenance practices.

That right there is the one point you, I and my mechanic friend agree apon 100%. Questionable quality oil or quality oil that does not meet Fords spec, and long OCI's are bad news for ecoboosts.
