I'll admit I skipped right to the end, but if you have to ask if you need 35s, then you don't. It's not an insult, you're just not using your truck like others on this forum do. For some, 35s are a necessity.

Yup. I paid of all my debt including student loans and auto loans about a year after that thread.

I now have fully stocked emergency fund (5months expenses) and my retirement is back on track.

Lately I have been splurging (all cash). I bought OVtune etc.

I want to go off-road and feel secure.

For example, when I got to the last stretch here at Peavine In Reno. I was shocked that i could only get up the last stretch with 4Lo? I know it is most driver error. Further...When I got back to the bottom, I was worried that my shocks might fail because of the fade I felt
    04244FFE-4D68-4318-A517-5954FBC806C6.jpg

Then at the Sierras. I was afraid of banging my undercarriage on stuff like this.
    36D87466-346F-4EB2-B6C9-2DFA6F9FB0A9.jpg
That puddle actually got pretty deep towards the center. It actually wasn’t deep enough to do anything. However, I jumped out of my truck and walked in it just to make sure.

I was doing all this by myself. Anything to decrease my stress level would be great.

If you want to feel "secure" get full armor and some good self recovery gear, then big ass tires if you want to flex on the haters

Were you aired down? That helps a LOT with ride quality/shock fade since the tires absorb some of that energy. How low you go depends on how fast you're driving.

Well, as a general rule of thumb in the off road community, rock stacking is frowned upon... Part of leave-no-trace/don't-change-the-feature but I have done it..

But generally rock stacking is looked upon as not cool over here out West...

I was able to squeeze my 295s in the spare tire spot, just barely...And I aired it down a little also.

I ran pizza cutters for a bit, I think they are too skinny for the new Taco, older Tacos maybe good. Great mileage for a 33.3, though!

That seems pretty silly. They shouldn't be left stacked when you're done, but I see no problem with stacking them in the first place.

On a serious note (sorry hard to take you TW mood swings seriously)

Good for you wanting to go off-road more, I would like to indulge more and I do have some decent trials in my back yard. So, it I were to get into it, I would join speak to the local folks or off-roading clubs. Start at the local forums regional forums on TW and see there are any local "tame" trips. Go and gain some confidence in your driving, then mod your truck to what fits your needs. Simply throwing a lift and tires on your truck without knowing how to use it, seems useless.

"Bull bar". Meant to gently push bull/cows out of the way. Not really for protection. Doubt it would help with bugs being that the tube is maybe 3" in diameter at best. Maybe more like flying squirrels or things similar. Lol

Yeah, well, I'm "out West" and since there's a lot of loose rocks, and since Jeep clubs from the East tear up the roads "out West" I don't have a problem with filling up the holes they grind out.

I'm not gonna name the road since it would just draw more attention, but there's a 4WD road in the Colorado Rockies that used to be easy. Last time I was there, there was a Texas Jeep Club airing down to travel the road.

I was wondering what the fuck they were doing since it was easy the last time I went up it in the '97 Tacoma. Went past that long line of 40 Jeeps airing down, went to travel the road, road was torn to shit, huge holes.

I turned around and counted those Jeeps, 40 of them, all from Texas.

I'd love to see some seriously insane offroading in 33s. I think you may disappointed that most will find it quite moderate.
