Great analysis. I came to the same conclusion based on the responses in this thread. Even fellow TW members were hoping I got keyed for double-parking. Imagine what the general public would do?!

Easier in winter when the end spots at the back of the lot are half filled with plowed snow. This way you get 1 1/2 spots without being labeled an asshole and attracting the attention of people who are just looking for anything to be angry about.

Never Never double park. You are begging to get "keyed." I park far away from everybody else. My wife, who ironically walks 4 miles a day, complains every time. And every time I say "My truck - My rules."

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
TLDR, OP very few car doors will clear your sliders. Only trucks as tall as yours. I have some slite dings in the paint on my sliders from car doors. I'm sure their doors have more than a ding though...

I agree. The thing I don’t agree with is taking up two spots. I don’t care how far from the entrance you park or how empty the lot.

What I do is try to find a space as far from others as possible and with only one side adjacent to another space. But I don’t take up two spaces because I know I’m not entitled to an extra spot just because I like my truck dingless.

Mostly true, but some rear doors are stupid shaped. See the last gen CTS.

Also, the Model 3 has weird rear doors that seem to go too wide.

I do it everyday simply because I can outside my office. This side of the building is completely open and I can park sideways if I wanted. F82F7007-4DED-483E-9C38-F83075EF2011.jpg

I had another older truck side swipe mine the other day. His was already paint chipped and not well taken care of. No note, small chip of paint missing from my rear passenger door. Nothing big enough to involve insurance as its just a bit of touch up paint.

This is the exact reason I park in corner spots or at the back of lots. Inconsiderate ass holes who don't treat their own things nicely so why would they to yours? I don't find people like you bad, who park in the back and take up 2 spots if there are no cars around or not going to be. But I wouldn't do it because idiots out there are too dumb to realize and are looking for an excuse to key you.

If the lot is always empty, why straddle two spaces?

Make sure you know how and where to park on a windy day. Park with the wind coming from the front...Otherwise, the person next to you may lose their door right into your truck. I've lost a door to the wind before. That said I park anywhere but not next to SUVs, trucks, and/or two-door vehicles. Running boards will not stop another truck or SUV from hitting the paint,

I will never straddle two spots no matter how far. Still an asshole move to most people and that's the kind of attention you don't want.

Like I stated originally, I do it simply because I can, and why not, it really is of no consequence. I wouldn’t normally mention it outside of a thread speaking directly to the topic.

At work, I like to park where the peasant cars and trucks can't.

I have no moral issue with parking outside the lines. They are “rules” and I don’t feel like following them simply because they exist. That better?:)

Do you also go to the furthest urinal on a wall of urinals, leaving approximately 15 between yourelf and the one other guy in the restroom.
