Anyone pull their stock t-case and have their coupler already backed off a little? Seems odd

 

You added a crawl box and shorten the rear shaft 1.25" only???

I'd also like to settle the debate on the number of splines on the 6 speed RA60F manual transmission with photographic evidence of the transfer case input. There are 22 splines.



The top is the input shaft from my transfer case in my '09 6 speed man trans taco, bottom is the AT FJ case input. I was going to wait till winter to do this but seeing all these parts on my counter and this adapter being the only major obstacle has me motivated to get this done. Taking these to the machine shop this week to see about an adapter. Wish me luck!

@Littles you should take that male-male spud adapter and weld the back half of the stock 23 spline coupling onto it and bam, you got yourself a 22 spline male-23 spline female coupling!

I'm trying to wrap my head around a few things before officially buying a dual case setup, it's been a while since something vehicle related has had me so befuddled. I have a 3rz/w59 setup which supposedly has a 26 spline input on the tcase. Kyle @ MC and 02hilux told me I have to swap in a 23 spline input so I just picked up a v6 chain driven box with a 23 spline input on it as a donor.

I thought I saw on comment in this thread about having to take most of the case apart to get the input shaft apart, is that true?

Where are people sourcing gaskets from, if I do have to pull my stock case apart? Or are you just using FIPG/RTV instead? All the places I can find only have rebuild kits & gaskets for the RF1A's (maybe they're the same gaskets with different internals?)

Biggest question is, if my current tcase has a 26 spline input shaft, isn't the output shaft from the W59 ALSO 26 spline? Does either TG or MC account for this with an adapter? Or maybe I'm thinking about this wrong and they can adapt the output shaft to a 23 spline input, but not at the interface between the 2 reduction sections?

So the W59 has a 26 spline output and your stock chain drive case has a 26 spline input. Both are perfectly fine if you order adapters for a 4 cylinder/manual. The coupler from the crawlbox case to the chain drive case will be 26 spline to take the stock chain drive case input shaft. The coupler from the trans to the gear drive case will be 26 spline on one end and 23 spline on the other. Most gear drive cases come with 21 spline 2.28 gears and there isn't a coupler that will do 26 spline from the trans to 21 spline on the gear drive case. So odds are that you need to source a 23 spline input gear for your gear drive case if you are building your own. You can either order a prebuilt case with a 23 spline input from TG or you can order either 2.28 or 4.7, 23 spline gears from TG too. You are NOT changing the input shaft on your stock chain drive case.

The 2015 Inchworm case I sold to @ThunderOne and threw 4.7’s in had the dual row MRC/Nachi bearing in case anyone is keeping score at home

 

I wonder if it's just a Marlin Crawler thing, seeing as this is really the only setup that has 26 spline shafts on it maybe they just don't make the adapter for it?

So you got your 26 spline adapters from Trail Gear (or lowrange)? Meaning their prebuilt dual case kit would come with them? I just haven't seen anyone explicitly call out anything saying "26 spline", only 2.7L/MT applications, and then marlin says it doesn't work without 23 spline conversion which is most of what's confusing me.

Ideally I'll just get a prebuilt case as I just don't have the time these days to mess around with building one.

 

I don’t think Marlin makes a 26 spline crawler to chain case coupler. @rngr had some similar issues with trying to get parts for a w59 crawler from them before he gave up and went TG. My adapters are TG through Low Range. If you buy a prebuilt case for a 2.7/manual from TG, all you have to do is bolt it together

Marlin’s solution for me was to swap in a v6 Tcase to fit their crawler. So I bought from TG and bolted it in.

 

Does TG make a built crawlbox? I thought the only option from them for a built unit was the Verso. That's the crawlbox and a new T-case and it ain't cheap. I looked at them before I decided to just do it myself.
