What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So how much for us all to get another made from the same company?

 

A custom aluminum radiator will cost you 600-1000.

But there is NO comparison to anything on the market with quality of a custom.

The champion in a crap radiator now that I see the difference and weight in person.

But a custom Is definitely not for everyone.

Here you go! And I put in the rubber bushings in between the radiator and support just because,
And because I had it made the same size as the original I got a new shroud that fits without any cuts And stock lower hose.

As you can see the thick side channel brackets actually are welded to both top and bottom header tanks for extra strength,
No chance of this radiator flexing and cracking now

 

Awesome - from the pic I saw before I thought the sides were boxed in - so was it just the overall dimensions you gave and they made it from that?

 

I found this between my AC evaporator and the blower fan. Not good for circulating cold air lol

 

I actually sent them my old OEM radiator and they copied from that one.

But they screw up and put the radiator cap in the center of the radiator and it hit the hood when I got it back.
So they lowered the cap section because they would have had to made a complete new radiator.

Now I have to fill the system from the rear with a Preston T fitting to bleed the air because the top
of the radiator cap is now lower than the top of the tank.

I’m still have air in the system so I might have to modify the overflow tank so I can remove the air
with an airlift kit that will remove 100 percent of the air from the overflow with vacuum.

My temps are bouncing around until I get all the air out but most the time my new temperature is at
184 degrees.

i am going to see how they work before new ones that cost anywhere from $6.44 on up

for the new nuts my local dealer will probably charge $15 each nut, but maybe i should call first, they often like to almost double the MSRP it seems so i definitely will not get new ones from them should it come to having get some new fresh black ones

if I could get a new nut for $1 i probably would go that route first!
I only did 12 this time so if they don't work to my trucks liking i just saved $12 not doing the other ones!
i will just skip a week of McDonalds McChicken lunch for the PC job

these wheels on the inside were tough to clean with oven cleaner, got a lot of gunk off but not all and my hands really burned (i shoulda wore gloves!)

 

I picked up some grease to lube the driveshafts...heheh

I know there are nine zerks on my truck and where they are. Three questions maybe someone with experience can help with.

1. How many squeezes of the grease gun at each zerk? I read that too much grease can be a bad thing.

2. Toyota and TacomaWorld seem to use different terminology when referring to the joints. Can anyone clarify which zerks are the spiders, slide yoke and double cardan joint?

3. Front driveshaft has 3 zerks. Are all three considered thrust bushings?

With the u-joints you just pump grease until you hear the older stuff start to ooze out between the joints. You can hear it and see it when that happens.

The slip yoke zerk you don't want to overdo it and put too much grease in there, probably just a few pumps is fine

 

You’d think Toyota would have had enough foresight to put a cab filter but the hvac filter on my 2nd gen looked almost as bad when I changed out the filter after 10 years of use compared to my 1st gen after 20 years of use.

 

Check your motor and tranny mounts.

You do a triple or double core?

it looks like you were correct! they are not as durable as I thought they would turn out to be, maybe i can get 15k~20k miles on them

do you think some eastwood chassis gloss black paint for the other ones would work with better results?

 

i guess i should check that spot on mine too lol
did you have to dig much out to get at it, is it easily accessible?

 

Replaced the steel cargo basket on my camper top. Old steel one had rusted all to hell, even though it had been repainted twice. Can't recommend the Curt basket. It seemed that the water would get inside the tubes and just lay in there. Kinda like a Taco frame!

This one is aluminum, and I purchased all stainless hardware to assemble it. No more rust!! I do like having the light bar mounted in this area. Acts a bit like ditch lights and does not light up the hood. But that necessitates having a second, smaller light bar on the bumper.

 

Noice. I loved an aluminum roof rack I had on a Land Cruiser. Awesome how light it is compared to the old huh?
