I have a 97 Tacoma and when I press the throttle from stopped it accelerates really slow. But ounce I get up to speed it’s fine.

my truck threw a P0753 code for “shift solenoid (A)”

I took a photo of my donor transmission can someone point out the location of shift solenoid “A”

I marked the selonoids red, green, blue.

    Green is your friend

Testing the solenoid is good place to start but there may be other reasons the computer in your truck is throwing that code .
Can you give us a little history on the transmission in your truck ? was it serviced on a regular schedule ? How long hast it been starting off in 3rd gear ?
There is a newer diagnostic procedure here but its also for a newer truck therefore the code is a different number
The diagnostic info below should be the same as what you would find in a 1997 FSM
Do you have the FSM for your 1997 ?

    Also have some info here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...sions-write-up-your-4-speed-automatic.325531/

Send me a PM . I should have the actual service manual for your truck .
From there , I can steer you in the proper direction

You are the poor fella that started this post ?

I pulled the transmission pan. And checked all the solenoids.

the middle solenoid the one marked (green) in the picture. Was not working when I put power to it. So I replaced it and my truck runs great again.

I’m getting the same issue, changed my fluid 400 miles ago, just did fluid change not flush and didnt change filter, I felt 1st slip a week ago, and thought it was all in my head, drove okay for a week then it slipped again and finally threw a code p0753, hopefully its just a bad solenoid, ima also change the filter

My transmission didn’t have any noticeable problems when it threw the solenoid code. But after replacing the solenoid the problem went away

I would start with checking your fuel filter also I would consider checking for a clogged up catalytic converter, upstream o2sensor. Old spark plugs. Old coil packs.

Was the part number 85420-21090? That’s what I found but just double checking. I ordered from Toyota, is there a cheaper option that’s just as good?

I replaced all three of mine, the filter and gasket with the Herko (sp) brand off Amazon. Been beating on it hard for 3 years with no issues
