The inner tie rods are bent. You might be able to get away with replacing them but I'd bet your rack is messed up too. Bending them back is good bdar or trail repair but only to get you to the part store.

 

I'd definately drink a beer with you brother but I'll follow you in my truck!!

 

If you can find a good heavy skidplate it might save you the trouble next time.

 

All the more reason not to beat on it.

 

i travel literally 4 city blocks to work each day, so being gentle on them. had to drive it about 60 miles like this to just get it home

 

Meh, if it was my truck I'd be replaced.

 

got one lined up from ARB, but need to make sure it will be compatible if i upgrade the axle and suspension.

 

With that drop bracket I wouldn't think one for a stock truck would fit. I found chunks of rock in my bent skidplate when I got back from my last trip to Colorado. I cleaned the plate up with my angle grinder and sprayed it with more bedliner.

 

I agree with looking at Solid axle conversation if you want to run it this hard or harder... Even with a bumper and front skid/bash plate, the IFS is still not going to go well if you are going so fast you drag boulders 8+feet.

 

That is what I have been saying! This is certainly a safety issue. You are the one who suggested beating on it. I tried this 30 years ago so dad wouldn't find out when I smacked a parking stop. That shit was really fucked up and then it broke. Saw dead relatives as I slid across traffic. I suggested a rack assembly with inner and outer tie rods. Seems very reasonable given the carnage.

I am sure most of the drag was just the vertical drop of the terrain i was on really steep and lots of little broken rocks from the hillside on the road as well.

 

Gonna baby it to and from work for a few days till i can get steering assembly. Really don't need to cause an accident if there is any chance of the rods snapping. No highways just residential travel bout 25 miles an hour. Just seeking options for attack on the basic repairs. bending the rods back straight back prolly not a good idea, LOL ( I had thought about it for sure! )

 

If you do.... you can weld a piece of rebar or similar to help keep it straight until you get a new rack and tie rods.

 

Rebar is soft as hell. If you're worried about work hardening than welding would be way worse. I honestly wouldn't be worried about beating it straight as a stop gap.

 

That's the inner tie rod that is bent. If you wait to long on the boot the joint will be damaged and that is the serious $$$.

 

Repair the broken parts. Get an alignment. Go back up there and conquer that biyatch. The mountain not the boulder. You only live once.

 

^^ Plus those are a bitch to change. That "claw washer" can suck a dick. Get a whole new rack assy, measure the toe as best as you can front to rear of tires and head straight to the nearest Hunter Hawkeye.
