I have not been driving much over the last year and am going back to a knobbier tire. These are great for gas mileage at only 37lbs per tire! This is the ultimate lightweight package for mpg's!

5 total tires with ~70% tread left. Brand new they have 13/32 =0.4", these tires range from 0.25-0.3 1 tire is brand new but picked up a nail the week it was put on. It's been holding air pressure for the last year with a plug in it. It's the been the spare.

so I peeped this nice V8 4th Gen 4runner online today and I asked the seller to send me pics of the undercarriage...
what are your guys thoughts on the rust on here? Superficial something that can be wirebrushed/sanded and undercoated?

 

thank god no but it is starting to show some surface rust already even after spraying her down every week in the winter

 

Looks like a lot of rust to me... Just my opinion though.

Yeah... Sucks living up here because of that.

 

My thoughts. Most all the rust is the welds, the steel framing is actually looking pretty solid.
But it's' started, it's every where, You know its probably 1/3 worse on the inside where you can't address it.

You could wire brush it all & POR 15 it & Fluid Film it, & get a bunch more years out of it.

Can it be cheap enough to pay you for your time addressing this? That would be my final question to self.

just me, but I have a soft limit of about $7k/$8k on dealing w/ stuff like this. $10k & up on a daily - I just don't want to deal with on your back sh*t falling in your face projects.

90k is nice, but maybe less nice than 120k that's been updated. Isn't 90k coming up on a lot of service needs?

He’s had the timing belt and diff fluid done at 65k so I don’t think anything major coming up

 

Well it's a big project down under, but if you have the time & tools & energy.

Seller may be a little freaked looking at their own photos & might be a little more flexible on the price.
Last math I'd do in consideration: How much $ would you earn working a Sat & Sun? That value of your time + actual costs (wire wheel, brush, sand papers, paint brushes, POR-15 Top Coat (~$33/quart), etc. - add that all up, +$12k purchase = your actual cost. See what that new total would buy you. Would that total get you something rust free & similar from Oregon or CO?

Does anyone here have some wheels with 285/70/17 tires I can test fit? I'm just really on the fence between that or pizza cutters. I'll drive to you and even pay you for your time. You won't have to do anything. I will do all the work.

 

I think I've 265/65/17 on the Tundra if that's pizza cutter enough, welcome to try those on. The big tires around here are all 16's.

edit - 6 bolt of course.

 

Right now I have 265/70/17 on and I still think they're a bit too small after my 2 inch leveling kit. I just want to see how much work I'll have to do to fit 285/70/17. If it's too much, then I'll just run with pizza cutters.

Came home and went to mow my friend's grass, and then my in-laws. Tomorrow after work I'm mowing across the street.
