I'm getting really confused by Amazon on the fog light bulbs. It's telling me a bunch of different things. I've already ordered myself a set of H9(s) for my headlights, but if someone could please help me out with the fog lights so I don't end up wasting some money.

Or the GE +130’s, for $15 less per bulb and slightly less output.

These guys below have you covered for the best factory bulb replacements.

For LED fogs you should replace the entire housing. See the thread with all the LED fog options here:

How come those things have such bad reviews? Is it just because of the much shorter lifespan compared to other bulbs?

If you read the reviews, yes mostly it comes down to bulb life mixed with folks who wanted LED color from a halogen.

Bulb performance for most people equals longevity above all else, especially on cars where it’s harder to get to the headlights. On my previous Outback you had to pull the fender liner down and go in through the wheel well. It was a giant pain in the ass, and even worse because it was inevitably -20F when it went out. On that car, which ate bulbs like candy, I wanted long life above all else.

Yep. As mentioned if you read the reviews they get hit hard for short bulb life and not looking like HID. Both should be understood when buying a performance halogen bulb, but Amazon is pretty poor in consumer education.

Yep. And the masses don't know that you're not supposed to touch the glass with your bare hands or get them dirty even in the slightest little bit. And that probably increases the number of bulbs that fail prematurely.

If all the reviewers knew that you can only expect to realistically get 10-12 months out of the bulb, the poor reviews wouldn't be so pronounced. For those that get less than that amount of longevity, they're either driving 7 hours a day with the headlights on or they're getting dirt on their bulbs upon installation.

Actually sounds worse than replacing bulbs on a Grand Am.

Decided to replace my fog lights with the GE+130 and disappointed when I realize the original bulb was H16 on my TRD-offroad. Assume the original bulb was H11. Fortunately Amazon.ca had the clear kc hilites G4 on sale for $285 Canadian. Excited for them to come sometime this week.

Yes those are the same ones, though the GE Xenon +120 do slightly better.

Would one actually be able to see the difference on the road?

I believe H11's should fit in place of those H16s. On the 4Runner, the stock Osram H16s aren't the same as common H16s. Most people swap them with H11s. Might be the same deal with the Taco

I wasn't 100% sure if the wiring will handle the extra wattage from the H11. I'm not electrical/mechanical smart. Plus it was a good price for the KC HiLites on Amazon, and much better fog pattern according to all the test crash done. Trying to justify my purchase :). Would have like the amber KC but it was $100 more at the time.

The difference is small. Side by side you can see just a slight difference, real world driving it would be pretty close.

Make a mention of this in the first post maybe.
The h9 trimmed work great in the low beams.

Having a problem installing the Phillips h9 in the low beams. Got them both installed with the trimmed adaptor harness. Had issues fitting them in the sockets so I had to trim the largest of the 3 tabs. Didn't see how they would fit otherwise. Anyways started the truck and verified they both worked. Turned the truck off for a bit and waited for dark. Started the truck up again to go for a spin and one isn't working now. Connections were tight. Put the factory H11 back in and that worked. Any ideas why the h9 would quit? Are these bulbs pretty fragile? I did have to slightly force it in.

Shouldn’t be that fragile. You can get them in without trimming, but it can be tricky. Swap the suspected bad bulb into your high beam and see if it works.
