Dipstick stuck/dirt on stick

A little dirt on your dipstick won't hurt. Many of use have had that happen and are perfectly fine. You clean it off an move on. Sure sometimes a dirty dipstick will leave deposit, but generally if you don't have a problem within a month you a home free.

 

You can take the best comedian in the world and they can do their lines and there will be atleast one person in the crowd not laughing. Does this mean they aren’t joking?

Not really. Obviously the motor is going to be fine. As I already stated if the Op is really concerned all he needs to do it an oil and filter change. It’s not the end of the world and his truck isn’t going to blow up.

Unfortunately a few butts have been hurt. For that I’ll recommend some ointment or alcohol. Or maybe some counseling?

Btw what’s your grudge with Falken?

 

Ordered four tires - whatever model that everyone on TW creams their skinny jeans over.

Tires came in and the tire shop could not balance three of them. The fourth took so many weights the manager would not mount it. They upgraded me to BFGs at no extra cost.

Decided to give Falken a second chance. Bought four of them for my wife's T4 at a different shop (special order and on top of it the manager flat out told me they hated dealing with Falken) and 2 of the 4 tires could not be balanced. One was visibly out of round.

Now, I understand that some people here have had great success with Falken, and I do not doubt it. So please, if someone reading this loves Falken or has had good luck with Falken, there's a thread for that - and posting your good experience in no way negates my bad experience - and conversely my bad experience does not negate your good experience. But in my 50 years of lumbering around on this planet I have never seen so many mounting problems with one tire manufacturer.

 

Boom. Clean the dip stick tube with like a q-tip, or oily rag. Then clean the dip stick itself. Then oil before reinstalling

 

Sucks you had a shitty experience. I work at the US plant. There have definitely been some issues persay. You should of contacted Falken directly so they would send out a a fresh set.

I ordered a set for my truck. One was hard to get to balance out. It gives slight vibs but nothing crazy bad. The dots weren’t matched with the stems but I’m sure that would only help it require less weight wheel weights.

 

I did eventually contact Falken and the answered promptly. I'd have to dig the email up from my archive but the answer was that there is a certain percentage of tires that have issues, and that they recommend buying from a shop that stocks them to reduce the chances of getting a bad one.

Both shops upgraded me to more expensive tires at no cost. The KO2s on the Taco and Nitto ATs on the 4R.

Building tires I can tell you there are many things that goes into them and potential for them to be out of balance and bad. They put some very expensive automated machines in the plant but a lot of machinery is older. The plant itself of almost 100 years old. Since Sumitomo took control back of the plant from Goodyear they have invested a lot of money into the plant. Quality standards they have tried to improve but there has been a lot of obstacles.

Also for the 265/75/16 WildPeaks they started putting them on the new green tire trucks we have. The other older trucks crush the sidewalls and beads before going into the curing presses, after getting painted. I don’t think that would effect balance though. And a few weeks later I seen them back on the old trucks. Pretty sure it’s just bad bead sets. A lot of the builders are newer and some of the change over mechanics really suck at setting the machines up. Some builders are smart enough to adjust the machines/or have something come and do it, but some people just don’t care or know any better I guess.

Alright, since this ended up taking quite the turn, let’s turn it off. I appreciate the advice of those who were able to give out genuine advice. To some it may be “common sense”, but research proves that there is no such thing as common sense, it is an abstract concept. That in itself would probably be considered “common sense” - quite the conundrum.

What you may find puzzling may be simple to me, and vice versa.

I didn’t mean to kill you thread Jorge. Just trying to make light of the situation with a little joke.

That being said simply change the oil and filter. Wipe off the dip stick and wipe a little fresh oil over the O-ring on the dipstick. That will keep it lubed and help keep a tight seal. When inserting the dipstick, if it’s having trouble going in one way try turning it around. Some vehicles the dipstick is a little tight and that can vary same model, truck to truck. Some members have filed theirs slightly to help with them binding up. You could try that if still having a problem. Also if you’re worried about contaminants in the dipstick tube, you could pour some fresh oil using a funnel down the tube while draining. This will help flush some of the contaminates that may be in the tube. Or maybe a pipe cleaner would work. You could even try blowing a little compressed air to help blow the oil and contaminates out and into the drain pan. That’s probably overkill and could make a little mess while draining.

Overall I wouldn’t worry about it. That’s why there is a filter in place to catch dirt/contaminants. Just a oil change should flush most of what little contaminants, that were introduced.
