My legs somehow are doing alright from Monday. Not sure if it was the foam rolling or hot tubbing. Taking today off cuz I'm exhausted. Was supposed to go surf but as per usual my buddy bailed last minute. So beer it is!

    Good!

I never should have started working at a brewery, let alone one that is located conveniently between the gym and home. AND I can get 4 beers (2 for me 2 for the hubs... I’m not that bad) for $8.

And be sore for bike riding? Pfffttt. Mountain biking is way more fun than gym and is a hardcore leg workout. I’ll wait lol

I only get sore enough for it to impact my life (like deciding to go hiking or running) if it’s been awhile since my last leg session or I’m bumping up the weight on my lunges.

If you do a week split on legs throw some leg work into your routine another day. You may be going too long between workouts for your body to adapt to the lactic acid production.

Also as painful as it is, foam roll and stretch after legs and foam roll the next day. It hurts like hell if you are sore but just one session of rolling can melt half the soreness away.

Like roll before you bike if leg day was before.

If I’m stretching and rolling daily, and doing yoga every 7-10 days I pretty much am invincible in terms of being able to lift, run, hike, swim, etc everyday and not get too burned out or sore.

Yea, I think Bilateral Hip Replacement is pretty uncommon. Both were bone on bone and hurt like hell. Took me 5 Doctors and about 10 months to get a proper diagnoses. Avascular Necrosis. I manage 2 departments at work, in 2 different buildings. They're about 100 yards apart with a set of 15 steps between them.
It would take 30-35 minutes to walk from one building to the other. Just to get to walk back.
Doc gave me a choice one at a time or do em both. I chose one and done. I was better off 3 days afterwards than I was 3 days before.

Wow. Well I'm glad they fixed you up!
I think it's a compliment to you from your doc that he thought you were man enough to handle the rehab on both at the same time.

Knees are bad experiences so they encourage patients to do both at the same time otherwise they won't get the patient back in to do the opposite knee lol. Hips aren't bad, people just have a tendency to not be able to handle the rehab with both at the same time.

How long was your total rehab?

By rehab you mean Physical Therapy or time off work? If so, I never had any PT. Doc gave me a walker and said use it until your comfortable walking without it.
I used it around the house for 4 days then gave it up. Was walking up and down stairs on my 2nd day home. And back to work in 2 weeks.
The hardest part of all of it was the damn toilet. Taking a leak no problem. Getting up and down was the problem.
They have a new technique for hip replacements. Well, it's still fairly new. Called Anterior approach. They have to use a special table called a Hana table.
You're basically strapped in up to your gonads in ski boots. They use the table to manipulate your legs and a hydraulic arm to separate your thigh and hip muscles.
Giving the Doctor access to your hip joint cavity without cutting any muscles.
As we all at sometime in our life will most likely know someone having a hip replaced. My advice never ever do it the old way whenever possible. Find a Doctor that does the Anterior approach replacement. Some Doctor's doing it now are replacing hips at 9:00 am in the morning. And you walk out the door going home by 5:00
that afternoon. With no PT. Why would anyone want to do it the old way with possibly weeks of PT and rehab.

Man idk. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love fitness and working out but it’s not my #1 hobby like it is for some of y’all. So I just kinda go with the flow and have the “I’m doing something that’s better than nothing” mindset. Idk if my workouts are perfect or whatever lol. Some days it’s just hard to get in the gym lol

I'm familiar with the anterior approach. It's not always done because 1) Cost and reimbursement 2) Surgeon Training 3) Patient Candidacy.
The largest barrier being 3. Many people getting hip replacements are either older (60+), seriously overweight or obese, or have comorbid conditions like diabetes and heart conditions that basically don't make the procedure as safe as the traditional posterior approach.

I have only shadowed the posterior approach and have wanted to see an anterior approach done but of the two orthos I know, they say they don't do them often due to just a lot of people not being good candidates. And that's due to people being generally unhealthy, over weight/obese, or just not likely to be compliant with post-op care. Those things make the surgery a greater liability too. Docs aren't going to want to stick their neck out if they are going to get their head chopped off.(I’ve worked in medical negligence litigation for years)

I think it's incredible you were back to work in two weeks.

You're doing fine. On a typical leg day I only do 3 or 4 sets of squats, 3-4 sets of front squats then some type of hamstring work. On an exceptional day I'll throw in a set or 2 of high rep lunges with a little weight! lol
