kinda and not kinda. the insurance company will value the truck at “actual cash value”, minus depreciation and then come up with a figure. that’s the offer. it is based off current market value of similar trucks in the area, with condition, mileage, etc taken into consideration. so odds are, all that’s already been done. what’s left to negotiate? maybe any custom parts and equipments you have receipts for, that’s about it.

acv will not get you in a brand new 2019 model.

his insurance company won’t want to pay out in this accident. the other party has insurance so they’ll pay out.

possibly. not at fault accidents are a rating factor! it will depend on the company because some will “forgive” certain accidents and the premium won’t go up at renewal time. but if you start shopping around for new insurance, then you’ll get hit with it.

I'd take the frame honestly. That's not that bad of a hit.

unfortunately, insurance companies can’t consider emotional attachment into the price, like many of us do. i have claims adjuster experience, do you? just curious.

I had geico for a long time. When I was 16 under my parents plan at the time, I was driving under my permit by myself. Ran to the store to get something to drink. Some guy was driving out the wrong side of a split entrance (out the in). I hit his truck in the quarter panel. No police were called just info exchanged. I believe the accident was considered no fault by the insurance company. However my parents rates went up and when I turned 18 and bought a new car I don’t think I could get insurance. Can’t remember if they wouldn’t insure me or if it was just too high to make sense. Anyways I had to register the car in my mother’s name and I stayed in her policy for a few years. Then afterwards I was able to switch to my own policy but was still paying $300 a month for insurance. That stayed on my record for like 7 or 8 years. And effected my rates until it came off.

Then he needs to find a new insurance. They should not hesitate to pay out and then collect...that's what my insurance did in a similar situation.

And before someone says his rates will go up if he does that, mine didn't.

It's not about emotional attachment, it is about payment for damages and I don't think their settlement offer makes him whole (but I haven't shopped for a 2012 prerunner so maybe I'm wrong).

If you were planning on driving that truck for 300000 miles take the frame replacement, if you planning on selling it at 160 then haggle for a better buy out. Did you have any soft tissue damage? Neck pains, whiplash, not sure how insurance works there but my feelings are phk the insurance companies when you can. Don't be nice .

If an adjuster from GEICO comes out looking like this, you will want your insurance involved.

My brother totaled his 2007 with 70k miles on it, 2wd Prerunner, and he got a check for 23k dollars from the insurance company. 17k is wayyy too low

That truck is about half the milage of OPs truck. I would try to negotiate as much as possible, but 17k is probably barely less than what its worth

every company is different and every situation is different. the at fault party’s insurance is willing to pay, so no need for all that.

the adjuster came up with a price based on their valuation process. no need to doubt it.

it’s never fair to compare situations because no two are the same. that’s like trying to compare insurance premiums.

Closer to 23k I'd take the money but at 18k they are lowballing you and you can't replace it with the same vehicle for that much. I'd take the new frame drive the wheels off of it.

Exactly. For 18k you could probably get another Tacoma, but who knows if it was taken care of or abused offroad like mine. I love my truck and to me its worth every penny I spent upgrading it, but to an outsider its probably worth half of what I paid for it.20190720_074230.jpg
