If there is no actual bumper damage just buy the color coded bumper cover clips and the trim.

Well, I guess this sums up why "insurance experts" aren't lawyers.

Honestly I'm kind of leaning towards the aftermarket one...
hopefully it doesn't lower fuel MPG too much

    still looking into it,
I hear the suspension has to be upgraded to handle the extra weight

If you have a hitch and don't mind it being integrated into the bumper, Shrockworks makes a rear bumper that I believe they claim is 10lbs lighter than the stock bumper and hitch combination.

    Looks good, thank you!

I thought maybe bumpers with lights integrated into them might be nicer if it adds light to reversing, (not all bumpers seem to have that)
but am not sure if the "high ground clearance" bumpers can be better for off-roading but worse for crash impacts if the opposing car crashes underneath the bumper and slides into other parts, damaging them
    due to the high clearance
    but maybe not

yes I have a hitch, due to stock tow package
I've read that the key with a hitch is to not install a cool-looking hitch accessory cover, because apparently that focuses any potential future crash damage into a center part of the frame that will for sure total it
so I guess I'll keep the stock plastic Toyota cap cover on there since it's small

Didn't read the whole thread but I had similar damage a few weeks ago. A high school girl texting drove into the back of me in stop go traffic. Took it the bodyshop at the Toyota dealer and they quoted $1k parts and labor to replace the bumper and repaint my trailer hitch.

I just took the insurance money and put it toward a CBI front bumper because all she did was a tiny dent on the bottom of my bumper... I already had bigger dings in it that I was responsible for.

Welcome to the club OP. I’m pretty sure I’ve been bumped in the rear by multiple people over the years. Getting high clearance down the road so I don’t really care at this point. Good luck getting it all figured out.

    Good pic showing it.

    you asked just in time
    Well
    so lately,
I've been seeing/noticing lots of steel bumpers on various vehicles, including Jeep. I guess it's popular.

Insurance offered to pay out what seems fair, but I'm not sure. And that would go off of a body shop estimate made, using a shop from their approved list of shops that they have a relationship with. I'm guessing this has to do with fair labor prices in the region of the shop.
Which I did, but am unsure of the honesty of the estimate. A different shop wanted me to stop by and talk to them instead; I haven't done this yet. Maybe I will just show them the paper estimate I have, to see if they think it sounds right and reasonable.

It appears the bumper may have bent to a point where it left a tiny scratch behind it on the bedside, as well as bending a bracket or support that holds it. Hopefully that part itself is cheap. The scratches could probably be fixed with touch-up paint, which I need to buy anyway (spray form at least) to paint an anti-tweaker tailgate mod part.

So it seems (hopefully) that the bumper itself is the only part that's really damaged.
Like some have said, steel bumpers are an option and one I am thinking about. Hopefully a black one doesn't get too hot in the sun.
Getting it in black powdercoat vs. bare metal adds some cost.
Or maybe it could be some shade of silver

Basically I was researching to see what ones are out there, that might meet the following criteria:
-decent price, not too much more than $500
-good quality; there was one brand (I forget which) that I read is pretty bad
-still offers tow capability somehow, if ever needed in the future
-might be fine without extra lights on it, or D-ring shackles
    -good looks
-maybe a regular one instead of full wrap-around high clearance, to avoid cutting into the truck
    -
