Speaking of craftsman...i bought a vintage craftsman vise (Made in the USA) i couldnt buy a HF vise Made in India, or Lowes Made in China. This is amazing. i love it.

I was going to restore it but i love the way it looks, prob original paint. it works perfect, no issues.

Nothing beats a nice American made vise. Keep your eyes open they are hitting yard sales all the time now.

Yea i got this off of ebay. The woman got this and a ton of other things from a estate sale. she has vintage craftsman tools still in the boxes. i lucked out with this one. This is my current set up. HF workbench, and the table on the right was found by the dumpster in my community. Global Industry brand. High quality, just like we had in out shop classes in school. It had an outlet strip on the side of the table. It heavy duty. GREAT find for free...they actually had 2 they were throwing out but we didnt have room for 2 :mad:IMG_9974.jpg

I have been looking on CL for a few months now for the right deal on a vise. I agree I cant bring myself to buy a crappy pot metal one from Lowes. How much did you pick it up for?

Got it for $55 on ebay. Part number #506 51801...you can find them for like $20 but not sure how much you need to refurbish/ repair

Im actually now rethinking about the HF jackstands now due to the shaft being made from the same material that the vises are made of. So i may need to see better options.

Farm auctions and estate sales. The best old school tools turn up at them. Bought a 2” drive socket wrench and SAE socket set for ten bucks and once earlier this year for tractor stuff.

Wilton bullet is what I've been looking for. I found a mint 6" for $60 but it was sold in a couple minutes. Everybody seems to know what they're worth!

That's a Columbian made craftsman I think. Very good quality. Much better than the new Chinese ones.

Jesus. The 6" American made vises around here go for a minimum of $500. A really big 5 or 6 incher would probably go for closer to $1k. I picked my 4.5" bullet up for $60 at a garage sale and have never been able to find anything close to that price since.

You can see the size difference between a newer chinese 4.5 incher and old american 4.5 and to keep it slightly on topic here it is next to a Harbor Freight 5 or 6 incher.20170726_180931.jpg 20170716_175513.jpg

The HF ones are pretty bad. They can do their job fine and they're really inexpensive but I would probably pass on buying one from Harbor Freight...

Too bad. I would have taken it apart and stuck it somewhere! :annoyed:

But one is better than none!
