My gal and I are doing a last minute trip to the Shaver area in hopes of a little wheeling and chillin'. If anyone wants to go or knows of anyone doing a trip up there it would be great to have some good peeps (myself excluded) along to share a great area.

    Pics from last years trip:

    EDIT: Here's the trip report...

Labor Day weekend was a good reason to get to the Sierras since I hadn't been able to talk any of my regular wheeling friends to get up to the Sierras... So Zoom and I was going regardless and then at about 5 pm the night before we went, J41 decided he would take his family with us.

We met on the road at 4 am as to miss all the traffic on Friday and Saturday.

When checking in with the ranger we found out it was opening season for archery - you talk about some beer drinkers!!! All weekend I only saw one guy that really looked like he was hunting - the others were counting beer! ;)

First ride was to get to the top of Bald Mtn. Zoom and I kept saying "the easier way is to go left at the first two opportunities." When we came to the first 'Y' in the trail, I got on the radio and asked j41 which way we should go. He said take a right... then he was wondering why it was getting hard - well actually his wife was getting woosy from some of the off camber parts of the trail... Bottom line: we had some fun and I wished we had gone the whole way the more challenging route but it was a good taste regardless.

Then it was time to get to Brewer Lake for the night. Although we had some people grilling when we arrived, along with some great KOH quality rigs come through, when sunset came, we had Brewer lake to ourselves! Not bad for Labor Day Weekend!

Then it was off to Strawberry Lake - the toughest "Easy" trail I've ever run - nothing crazy but a lot of fun. I was even able to get both diffs stuck on rocks! Pretty embarrassing! Well, an excuse to 'exercise' the winch.

When we started to set up camp and some "good ol' boys were pushing a 30" diameter, 3 foot long log with a Samarai to get it to a fire ring, we figured it might be better to go back to another lake we saw on the way to Strawberry that had no one but had two nice camp spots.... So back down the trail we went.

Then it was up early Monday morning to go to Mono Springs for a good Hot Springs bath! After doing a little 'hot tubbing' and 'cold dunking' J41 took off with his family and Zoom and I went to an empty campground right on the river that goes through Mono Hot Springs. During the day, we hiked up to Doris lake which was one of the true highlights of the trip. All-in-all, I love that part of this state!

I wish I could go. I'd love to hit up Shaver Lake Pizza at the corner. We're not going this year. Maybe next. I remember hitting up some trails at the parking lot on top of the mtn after yoiu pass Shaver Lake. I remember seeing the look out tower from your post last year. It's an 8 hr drive for us. Man I wish we could just pack up and go. :( Sorry bro. Have fun though. Don't go alone.

Bald Mountain. Yeah it should be good - I can not wait!!!

We've done a lot on our own (EMT, CPR, Cold Weather Survival, 20 years of Backpacking, etc.), but you would be surprised the people that you meet up there that are looking to wheel as well as long as you are willing to ask. :)

Too bad you can't make it.
