This is the first way that I’ve seen it done and hasn’t failed me yet.

I would have totally done that however, I drained all of my oil and I am kicking myself.

Even if it were full of oil, you aren’t turning the crank enough for the oil pump to do anything. You are just bumping the starter.

Engine rotation: yes CW (viewed from front) is standard, but some 1990s Honda engines rotate CCW; always check before you assume it's CW.

Slowly doing my homework on a supercharger install, so I'm reviving this thread. After reading this thread, it seems that for an automatic Tacoma, one way to do it is to do the bump starter method for the bolt removal and use the pulley holder tool to reinstall the bolt. That post where the bolts sheared freaked me out, but I'm thinking the shear stress is greater on the removal vs the reinstall of the bolt. Or is there a better way for the reinstall?

Reviving an old thread! Anyone have tips on the reinstall of the crank? I can’t seem to get it to line up with the notch!

Is it having trouble going on or lining up? Are you using aftermarket such as NST or OEM? The OEM should be pretty easy if it’s the same one just rotate. Some aftermarket NST the notch is a tad tight.

Well I didn’t want to torque it down if it wasn’t lined up perfectly, but I just eyed it and am starting to torque it down. How do you know if it was properly lined up? Will it not slide in otherwise? Just want to make sure before I give it the full 200 lbs of torque

you should feel it catch if you rock back and forth it should be in it. If it spins then no dice. Try a bit of grease to help ease it on. I needed to add a bit then give it a go. As long as it’s good and tight and the impact doesn’t move it ( 200 ish) it should be good. don’t go at it with a. Massive impact that would be all bad. Guten tight

Not a hack job, but definitely a "hack".

A hack job is a crappy job or a messy torn up result that's an eye sore at the end.

This thread has been revived a few times, and for good reasons. Here’s mine:

When bumping the starter to remove the crank bolt, should the ratchet be set to tighten or loosen? It’s never mentioned but figured I’d ask, I don’t wanna F this up lol.
