I'm looking at potentially buying an OEM Tonneau cover from a local here in denver, but I'm hesitant I don't have the correct mounting points or bed rails for it from what I've read here. Anyone who didn't get one from factory install one? What did it take and did everything fit your stock bed without cutting, or drilling and tapping new threads?

    Thanks!

I bought one off a local guy used and it was on his truck when he came over. We had to swap three things IIRC. The header rail up under the rear window- that was slightly different. then we swapped bed side rails. I gave him my plain ones, he gave me the ones specific for the cover. took maybe 20 min.

all the holes are there to mount the OEM cover. they're hidden under the bedside caps. if the seller has already removed the hardware, it takes 15 minutes to install the cover onto another tacoma. if you don't swap the bedside caps, the only modification is to cut your caps to fit around the latching pins.

Sweet, doesn't seem so bad. How big is this cut? Just use a rotary tool and sand it down?

the OP's pictures in this thread show the bedside caps with the cutouts for the latching pins. you'll need 3 cutouts on each side.

your options are to cut them (i assume a small rotary tool is fine), buy pre-cut caps from toyota (expensive), or swap your caps for the seller's caps (easiest, they pull right off with a good tug). i highly suggest swapping, so that you and the seller have the correct bedside caps. if the seller chooses not to swap, their mounting holes will be exposed.

Where did you land with this? Do you need cut out measurements? Happy to help if that’s the rout you go. Don’t forget you need a compatible header bar up at the front of the bed
