Remote turn on

I have a 2019 that i am putting a couple amps in.

What wire is the best place to tap into for power?

My apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn’t find it.

 

Depends on where you’re already running wires. If you’re already pulling the head unit out, I would grab power from there. The cig lighters are also easy spots to get accy power

just saw that I can use the gray wire "Switched Ign" on the plug with the speaker wires.

typically its a Blue with white stripe wire that is reserved for remote turn on. I guess you have the stock head unit in?

I would look for a blue/white wire in the stock hu harness. anything but ground would turn on the amp. even a 12v source would.

 

Well the aftermarket color for amp turn-on is blue/white. It won’t be that color in the factory wiring.
Also, if you don’t have the JBL package, that wire won’t exist in the factory wiring.

The extra wire in the am/fm antenna plug is a 12v output from the radio and is a good option.

The grey wire you mentioned can be good or bad, depending on the amp you’re using. With many amps, if you’re using speaker-level inputs and not using a hi-lo converter, the remote spot on the amp can actually become a 12v output instead of a 12v input (so you can use it to turn on additional amps)
If this happens with your amp, it can back-feed power to that grey accy wire at the radio and actually keep the radio turned on.
However, this is not the case with all amps, and typically not the case if you are using an LOC

 

I am using the JL rd400-4 / 500-1.

they actually both have the "turn on mode: rem/offset/signal"

if I put on remote it should just accept the 12v..correct?

I have another question for you if you don't mind.

using the speaker level inputs (I'm doing this) when its coming out at 12.1v I'm being told I now need the LOC-22 from JL audio which 89 bux and I need 2.

why are some so much more then the others? was told the JL product was awesome and shouldn't bother with the less expensive one.

We are looking for the connector that plugs in here.


Then, we want the smaller wire in that connector. That is the power for the factory antenna, and is only hot when the radio is on.

I personally dont think you need the LOC. That amp is rated for 8V RMS input when set to hi, which is more than you will get from our radios during nearly all listening scenarios.

Price can come from a lot of different things, but the LOC-22 is an active line-output converter, which we just dont need in this scenario.

You also want to make sure and get your subwoofer signal from the FRONT channels and not the rear

will do, ran into a bit of issue but just hoping is a loose wire from I attached to the speaker wire for the Rear RCA..some reason no signal was getting to the amp.

extremely tight fit to squeeze those Posi products Tap-its in one area.

may pull the head unit out and spread it a little bit..having 8 of those right at the plug is extremely a tight fit.

 

Yeah I would cut back that black vinyl stuff they have over the wiring and give yourself a few more inches to work with

Destin, I’m sorry man. Is there a plug that goes in the empty spot in the image? A buddy helped take the plugs out of the stereo and isn’t here anymore. I can’t find an extra plug??

 

Unfortunately, off the top of my head I’m not sure what goes there, or if it’s even used at all. It might be a connector used in the JBL system? Worst case scenario, you notice something doesn’t seem to work and that answers your question. If you can’t find a plug, I won’t promise it’s hidden somewhere. But I also know I’ve “lost” lots of plugs in my time installing.
