If you have a stock y pipe, the only thing an aftermarket cat back is giving you is a different sound. And there is no addition hp to be gained. The catback is the least restrictive part of the exhaust anyway. But Headers and @Roostfactor ypipe will definitely give you more power.

Question for everyone here, who here has sound deadened their truck? Mostly curious
    1. What areas did you do?
    2. Did it make any noticeable difference in blower whine or exhaust?

I should be getting my vinyl flooring next week, and I plan on doing the floor at that time. Then I will eventually do the doors/back wall/ roof.

back wall, doors, entire floor up just past the pedals.

no blower difference, Great difference for exhaust. not as annoying, and it was a great mod. still need to do the roof. I had it all apart and back together in 1 day.

Floor, back, and roof. Made engine, blower, and exhaust much louder in the cab. Though that could have been the cage. Didn’t test drive without the cage though so it could just be that.

Just did doors myself but it noticeably cut down on road noise

Probably true. Mine is one of the quietest caged trucks I’ve been in. We’ll say that’s thanks to the sound deadening.

I actually just did my roof and lined it with two layers of matting. One was for heat absorption which is why I mainly wanted to do it in the first place and another was for sound deadening. It has been an incredibly useful and effective mod so far and I found myself not having to talk as loudly on the highway and in general while in there. The tunes seemed to have sounded better as well. I will be doing the back wall next, then the doors, and after that the floor.

Which stuff did you use? I purchased the noico stuff. The 80 mil foil looking stuff, their closed foam insulator, and then some MLV I found on Amazon that was cheap.

I am glad to hear that about the exhaust. My exhaust is pretty quiet, but when boosting even in the lower rpms (2-2.5k) it can get old.
My other problem is the jbl stereo sounds worse the louder it is, but there is so much road noise anything under 36 you can hardly enjoy.

I think that has to be part of the cage for sure.

Yeah the doors on the 2nd gen are sealed rather poorly. Toyota did a much better job with the 3rd gen trucks.

Nice! I am a little skittish about taking the headliner down, but it seems plenty of people have done it successfully so I know I can do it. Probably not in the same day as the floor seeing as I don’t know that I bought enough materials and I don’t know if I would have enough time either. I plan on using the insulating stuff everywhere I can in the cab to help with the ac in the truck. I did the resistor mod that @loginfailed showed and I got my vent temps to drop a lot. My only concern is the compressor cycling too often while driving at highway speeds now so I will probably hook up my ac gauges and run them in the truck for a driving test to make sure the pressures aren’t going crazy.

Did you do full coverage or only 25% like recommended for this type of material? It seems a lot of people do near full coverage with that stuff and get good results. Since I am buying the foam and mlv I will probably only so 25% on the 80 mil.

Are you actually good with that JBL stereo? That system was unacceptable to me with all the crackling and popping it had and I eventually ended up gutting it all. Eventually the only thing I ended up using of it which is left of the JBL system is the powers, filtered grounds and speaker output wires, the subwoofer wiring had to get all new stuff since my sub is 900 watts. Lol.

My system has always been ICE COLD on the highway, the only issue was sitting at a standstill which is why I did the roof, the reflective windshield cover removed the rear window strip during summer time only and opened up the hood scoop. All of the mods have helped the AC system operate incredibly well while at a standstill under this scorching California sun.

I did my roof in one day. It took me about 6 hours to do, not too bad considering I had did a microphone reinstallation along with it all since I had the headliner down.

I did just about full coverage minus the overhead console mounting area because the metal is too close to the metal above it to fit a sheet in there. The roof sounds so good now when you knock on it and not like a cheap piece of soda.

My ac would only blow at 50 F, so my thermostat was obviously reading colder than it should. The resister helped that but like I said, when driving not sure how to feel about the compressor cycling on for 12 seconds then off for 8 over and over.

Yeah, the mlv and insulation layers you want pretty much as full coverage as you can get. The vibration tiles really only need 25% from what I have read, but doing full coverage with those won’t hurt anything either. I am just going to do 25% with those because I am cheap.

So you can’t buy direct through ratiotek, only through his distributors. So I called his CA distributor and they said they can’t get them either.

Well if you are that cheap then you might as well go with Noico 170 mil the 18 sq. ft. stuff and then if you want to throw on a secondary later use Blueskin instead of Noico 80 mil stuff to keep the cost down.

You guys and your ac. Mine only works on the highway when the engine has a load. Stop and go for some reason the ac stops.

I agree with this company being a smaller business than that of HP. However, it’s a business that advertises openly with big brother watching. Mat from Ov stated that he was warned and threatened with lawsuits for just talking about it on the the internet. OV I’m sure is smaller than Hewitt tech.......

You may have a cloggage somewhere in the system. Maybe the evaporator or expansion valve.

You may want to get your pressures checked. Hopefully you are not icing up or your high side is not exceeding pressures past 300.
