Ok, I need more info please.
I looked up the 3M stuff and it looks great, but they show it for doing front ends, side windows and whole cars.
Did you have to or try to polish the old lens before putting on?
Were you that unhappy with the results on the old lens and just went to new?

How did you get a piece or two for your speedo?
I could not find a way to buy some.

I am also tired of looking at scratched a lens.

Thanks for any help, and have a Great weekend!

Yes the film is designed for the exterior of vehicles. A friend who is an installer gave me a tiny piece to try and I liked how it adhered to the old lens I had.

I ordered a small roll on eBay for $25. Got some soapy water, an exacto knife, a heat gun and some patience.

Once I felt comfortable with the results I went ahead and bought a brand new lens and applied the film.

You don’t necessarily need to use the same film I used. There are others who have used different clear films for the exterior with good results.

    Thank you,

I like 3m just because they probably perfected it.

Do you have the link for EBAY?

How much did you pay for a new lens?

    I have a 17 also.

Mine shipped yesterday. Going to put XPel on it, install it and put this issue behind me.

I'm going to try this method out. Have a feeling it's going to be hit or miss with a local shop(s) as far as pricing goes. I wouldn't mind paying $30-50 bucks but I feel like anything more than that it's just not worth it

You applying the xpel yourself or having a shop do it?

Me. Practice on the old one first. Not even opening the box on the new one until I AM SURE that I can do it. if I can't, take it to an installer. We went to the moon 50 years ago, but we can't make a facia that won't scratch?

Part arrived. Now, triage this in to the hierarchy of all the other things I dream of getting done. Lift parts, out there in the shop, uninstalled. KO2's sitting out there, uninstalled. Hood scoop light, same. Under-hood lighting, same. All, eventually.

I use a photo/astronomy/microscopy lens-cleaning pen on mine. Gets it clean, fills minor scratches, cheap, easy.

    Keep it simple, I say.

That said, the pen is not a hammer, chisel, or air-hammer you ham-fisted clod: ie, don't stab the bezel. Just extend the retractable brush end, lightly brush to loosen debris, blow it out. Only use the other end if you've got something stuck on the bezel.

My pen goes in a Zip-Loc bag, along with a plush microfiber buffing rag, and lives under the back seat with a roll of shop towels.

I have one from Celestron and you are totally correct on this one. Keep it simple. That brush would work most of the time. Didn’t think of that
