this is concerning news for me, a 1st gen with a 96 truck just had his HG go yesterday
he only has ~180k miles on his truck
how do i prevent mine from blowing up in about 60k miles?

 

I might get judged for this question but what's an HG?

Same here lol. Only thing I could suggest is either keeping an eye on it and keeping up with maintainance or just say to screw and replace it. I would probably look at the timing chain too because that's another 1st gen problem from what I've read so far

the HG is a big time job to fix
its just unreal that his went out at that mileage, most have more than twice that mileage with no issues yet on 3.4
the timing belt is ahhh i don't know
if it breaks it breaks, no harm no foul i hear, i have changed mine once already and it looked almost new still (I kept it in a bag)

but the LBJs are a different problem with the off roaders

 

case by case scenario. Did he have the 5vz or the 3rz ????
