An update on the Crank Brothers Decal.

I ordered Three different ones and one out the three is actually a original.

Kudos for the hookup. I’ll post a picture when I have it on the truck, thanks.

I really haven't decided what I'm going to get yet. We'll be moving to Colorado Springs in a couple years when my daughter graduates high school. Though she has said she would like to move out there now. I think the only thing keeping her in the god forsaken state is her friends. But if she decides to move I'll put the house on the market right now. I'm selling everything we have and what doesn't sell I'll give away. I'm not taking anything out there but my computers, cameras and all my equipment, some cloths, and the dog and cat. I'm giving my daughter my wife's car in about a year. We only need one car since I'm retired.

I really wanted a 4Runner but they are getting a little long in the tooth now. I'm really leaning towards the new JL Rubicon 4 door. But I don't know? I'll figure it out once we decide to move.

Good deal brother. That sucks that two of them weren't originals. But at least you got one to put on.

Congratulations on being Retired, I think it’s great because you don’t have to be anywhere unless you made an appointment :)

It’s always good to thin out and down size, and moving is the perfect time to do it. Never been to Colorado but it looks stellar! Wish you the Best with the new Tour of Life :hattip:

I’ll be 59 this year and still love my job.
Not sure when I’ll walk away.

I retired at 47 from the FD. I just turned 50 the other day. I don't feel any different than I did when I was 49 so I guess it's just a number. My body is pretty broken down because of all the shit I did earlier in my life. I started racing BMX when I was 5 and was sponsored by GT through a local bike shop when I was 21. I asked them one time if I could buy a Yeti and they told me yes but I couldn't race for them if I did. So I was stuck with GT. It wasn't bad because the best bike I ever raced was a GT Team LTS. That was just a unbelievable bike. I don't know how many crashes I had but I've broken many bones. I quit competitive racing when I was 35 after I broke my elbow. It never healed correctly so it looks like my humerus is about to come out when I bend my arm. So that was it.

My mother got me into tennis when I was 8 yrs old because she played in doubles tournaments all the time. So she made me play. I played all the way through college. Can't tell you how many times I rolled my ankles and fucked up my knees. I ended up number 2 in the state but I just couldn't beat the number 1 guy. He just had a better mental game than I did. Tennis is 80% mental and 20% muscle memory.

I went to the hospital 4 times on the FD. The worst injury I had was when I was assigned to the Haz Mat unit. I only had a couple years on the job and at the time we didn't have the best equipment. My level A suit wasn't completely sealed and we had to make entry into a building that was leaking anhydrous ammonia. The problem with anhydrous ammonia is it reacts violently with water. So when I went through decon and took my suit off... everywhere I was sweating was burning. I can tell you right now, you do not want your balls burning. I ended up in the burn unit for a couple days.

So needless to say, I'm pretty broken down. But I wouldn't change anything that I did earlier in my life. I lived a pretty cool life. But now I'm paying for it lol.

This was the state tournament in 90 or 91? I lost.

These are the last bikes I owned. The Ridley was a cyclocross bike and was fun as hell to ride. But it was stiff as fuck. The carbon fork and Easton frame sure didn't help.

The Giant was one hell of a downhill bike. It had 8" of travel. It was geared pretty high so it wasn't a very good cross country bike but for downhill it was fun as hell. There is a bike trail in the city that we used to race each year. There was one part that had a jump that was about 20' across or you could slow down and go though the creek. I was 44 when I had that bike and I don't have any self control so I jumped it. When I landed the jump, I stopped on the other side and thought to myself "what the fuck are you doing?". I sold the bike after that. I'm so competitive that I'll even compete with myself. If I kept that bike I would have eventually killed myself lol.

Now... this thread has really turned into a bullshit thread lol.

*EDIT* This is the only bike I have now. All I do is flatland on it. There is a church across the street from our neighborhood that has a bunch of steps and things to play around on. I taught my daughter how to do a manual on it. So if any boys see her on a bike they should be impressed.

This is the only video I've got of that bike. This was on the trail we used to race on. But it's a public trail so there are usually people walking the trail. So it would be pretty bad if I rounded a corner and ran over a dog or something.

    Happy Belated Birthday!
You’ve definitely paid your Dues. That situation at work sucks. Sounds painful.

When it comes to playing sports and Adrenaline activities there’s always a chance of getting banged up. Those are some nice bikes. I’m looking to upgrade from my beach cruiser, but will keep it.

It’s good that you can still ride and school your Daughter on the bike.

This is my 1994 Jamis Diamond Frame cruiser with a Handle Bar stem extender and custom Golfball kickstand support :D

I just put new Tires on her and cleaned it up. It’s a simple Bike but I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I better get some Crank Brothers Pedals so I’m not a poser putting that decal on Haha!

Yeah it's fun watching her on the bike. I've taken the back brake off so I can tail whip it. She's almost got it down. Hell... she rides it more than I do.

The FD is a young mans / woman's job. You have to serve 28 years before you can retire. It used to be 20 years and you're out. But the pension board decided to make it 28 right before I came on the job. It's a hard job mentally and physically. You see things that no one should see. And you see people on the worst day of their life. But it's an awesome job at the same time. Station life is fun as hell. It's like a frat house. Something is always going on. I was assigned to T-1 when I came on the job and then got transferred to T-7 which has the largest district in the city and is one of the busiest Truck Company's in the South . I got promoted to Driver and then Captain on T-7. When I retired I roughly figured up how many runs I had been on and it came out to almost 34,000 runs.

This is what I was assigned to for almost my entire career.

And... what it looks like stuck in the snow.

They're good pedals. Not sure you need them on that bike but if you ever decide to get a mountain bike (or even a road bike), I haven't found any pedals I like more. Most clip in pedals have only one side (or maybe two at most) to clip in. Crank Brothers have four sides to clip in so they are the easiest pedals I've used.

That's a cool looking bike you've got there. Looks like it would be fun just riding up and down the beach.

That a tough Job for sure. You’ve definitely experienced things a lot of us haven’t. Glad your out. Try to enjoy yourself now.
    That’s a nice rig!..

Thanks, it has a lot of miles on it. I used to ride it a lot on the beach but the environment murders crank bearings. I’ll push it out on to the beach as show here, while taking a break from cruising the main Beach Road in my neighborhood.

I imagine you could get a sealed bottom bracket for that bike. That way sand wouldn't get in and destroy your bearings. Most of my bikes had Chris King hubs, bottom brackets, and headsets. I don't think you can do much better than Chris King. The only problem is they are expensive as fuck. But you get what you pay for.
