Mine has almost the exact same thing (~7600 miles)...

I cleaned it up with brake cleaner, and will keep an eye on it. I plan at the very least mentioning it to my dealer at the 10k service.

Brought my 2018 TRD Sport 4X4 MT in to the dealership for the 20K mile service and addressed to them for the 3rd time about the leak. Just like the first time I brought it to their attention, they said "no leak" except this time they are saying "what you are seeing is staining." It's obviously a leak I know it, and I know they know it. At what point does lemon law come into play?

Why not try a different dealer?

You have a good point, but the next closest dealer is much further than the one I am going to. I just wish they would properly diagnose and fix the problem. Anyone know what the root cause of the problem is and what the true fix for it is?

I can only guess, but that cover isn’t particularly complex or challenging. Has to be poor seal material, over-pressure in the diff, poor assembly, or some combination of those things.

I’m on a 1000 mile round trip vacation to North Carolina. Like an idiot I looked under my truck at a rest stop, noticed this. I can’t recall if it was ever there. I touched and it doesn’t feel wet, but greasy and leaves black residue on my finger. Is my diff gonna grenade on the way home? 21,000 miles.

if people would read The Forum, I posted that mine looked like this I sprayed cleaner on it and it has not look like that again I believe it is something from the factory like grease that just tends to get warm and look like the differential is leaking

If your differential is leaking it would look wet, plus it would be covered under warranty in the event it grenaded.

Really? Enjoy the vacation. When you get home, clean it with degreaser and watch for a while to see if it comes back.

Shure. I know it may be disconcerting to see, but yours does not look like an issue at all, and as pointed out by aussieboyroo, it may be melting grease from the sealant they used on the gasket and it’s comming from outside of the diff on the edge of it. That’s why Id clean and watch it for a few months.

Yeah but if you have never noticed it before that does not look like it's very wet

Hell I took a 5953 miles trip from Oregon to NewYork and back and the differential was perfectly fine and dry when I got home. I started to get paranoid cause all the hysteria on this site. I now have 10500 miles on my truck and when I left on my trip I had 4560. I had the dealer change the motor oil at 4500 miles and they only charged me $56. Then had the dealer do it free when I got back for the 10,000 mile. I will not let my truck go 10,000 miles between oil changes even if it's synthetic I intend to do it every 5000

You'll have a hard time lemon lawing a vehicle because of a tiny oil seep. It's not service affecting at all. At the rate it's weeping it will take 30 years to lose a pint of oil.

If I saw any actual drips I'd be more concerned, a (usually) small area of discoloration from oil seepage shouldn't be a big deal.
If it's anything like my 2nd gen there is more going on around the timing cover.
