Radio and Amp not working

I disconnected my neg terminal today while I was cleaning my throttle body. When I connected it back my radio and amp doesn’t work anymore. The two fuses in the factory locations are fine and the 50 amp fuse is fine on the power line for the amp. I have zero lights on the amp, a JL JX500/1D. My head unit, the Alpine ilx-107, has nothing lighting up, I haven’t pulled it to check it’s fuse, but find it odd that it would blow from just pulling the neg. I also have a maestro rr in the mix too.

Any ideas?

 

Does it have a reset button behind the faceplate?

 

Faceplate of the headunit? I don’t think so

 

Just went through a similar deal with a JVC after I charged the battery. I found a reset button behind the removable faceplate and pressed it with a toothpick, and everything came back on. There may be a reset button somewhere in the unit.

 

Dunno if that would explain the amp be off too?

 

Not sure. All I know is disconnecting the battery can do weird shit. After I charged my battery, my AC didn't work for about a half hour, then it came on strong.

 

The maestro RR module can have some issues when losing power. I’ve seen them need to be reset after battery replacements. I would disconnect all plugs from the RR brain, and then hook them back up and see what happens. Sometimes it needs to reestablish the communication with the trucks CAN-BUS

 

This would cause the headunit to not power up?

Could I plug my laptop into the USB port and reflash it and get the same result?

All the fuses test good. I pulled the head unit and the fuse on the yellow wire is good too. After some reading it seems the amp won’t turn on till the headunit does because of the remote wire so that makes sense.

 

Well disconnecting didn’t help. While I hadn’t it pulled I checked the voltage by pulling the harness on the headunit and using a multi meter and putting an end on the yellow and one on the black. I got 12v. But when I put the harness back in and turned the key on, I get no display. The RR doesn’t have a light either. I’m so lost. Also confused why the line has voltage when the key is off

 

I assume you didn't do the install... But amps typically have a wire running to the hu to turn them on.

 

Yes, I figured that out two post earlier.

 

Because the 12v supply needs to have 12 volts at all times to be the radios "memory" per se which will retain all your settings. There is a secondary wire for accessory when you have the key to accessory position if there is a signal to that of battery voltage that will turn your headunit on. That is the one you want to check. Usually it is red in color.

There is a fuse beneath your coin tray in the interior which should be about 15 amps which can blow. I don't remember the name of it but it has caused my headunit and amp to stop working also.

If I were you I would ensure the radio 1 and 2 fuses underhood are okay as well. If they are head to the 15 amp at the fuse box beneath the coin tray. I'll bet you one of those are blown.

 

Should be three power wires. Always on, keyed on and ground.

Odd. Did you check the fuse on the back of the stereo

 

Checked all three already and they were fine, including the two behind the headunit, one for the maestro and one for the hu.

 

Okay then you need to check your red wire at the rear of the unit and make sure it is getting batt voltage with the key in accessory. Make sure there is no reset button as well. If there is and still no dice after you attempt a reset then I hate to say it, but you killed your headunit.

 

Maybe a dumb question but do you need to push a power on button on the stereo.

If it doesn’t get power then what. I haven’t been able to find a reset button yet.

On mine it's a tiny hole behind he faceplate. The trick is finding the tiny button that removes the faceplate.
