I think he's talking about throttle response and traction control restricting him from putting the power to the ground.

 

I don't have traction control so I'm not sure what you mean. I know the ABS kill switch mod can change how those work. Makes the front act like it's locked while in 4wd so if the rear is locked, you're locked front and rear.

 

I've got the TRD carpet style floor mats in my truck and was constantly finding the darn things scrunched up after people had ridden in the back or the passenger seat.

So to stop that and keep them in place I took some tape backed velcro strips and glued them to the underside of the floor mat with some E-6000 to keep them in place if the tape backing didn't. Just make sure that the "hook" portion of the velcro is used and facing the floor so that it grabs the carpet like it would the "loop" portion of the velcro. Once the glue dries drop the mats back in and apply a little pressure above the velcro strips and they shouldn't slide anymore. If you need to clean them, just peal them off the floor and your good to go.

On a side note, this is my first post so bear with me if its a bit far from perfect.

 

I did this mod and at first I stuck a small piece of plastic between the points on the relay. The power would stay on after the key was removed, but only for a few minutes. I have since stuck a longer piece of plastic, as far as it would go, and the power stays on always now.

 

I just did this mod this weekend and to simplify your mod, just run the wire from the terminal on the relay to the green wire that goes to your park lamps. Use a splice and your done. This way you don't have to go inside the cab. The entire mod took me 5 minutes. Fogs come on with park lamps now and they stay on with low beams and high beams.

 

Nice tweek, yeah you could do it that way too. To be honest, I didn't even think of connecting it to the parking lights under the hood. I was running wires in the cab anyway so it was no extra effort. Either way works.

 

Took at look at the Cruise Control DIY. Looks prety simple and something I"ll definately be doing.

For anyone who's done this, A question.

One really. Regarding the Air Bag ground wire. It says to remove the wire from the white harness, but does not say much about it thereafter. It looks like the wire in the photo got replaced with a possibly shorter ground wire??

Got a few questions about this...

1. I know plenty of folks that have done this, but is it safe for long term for the components given that extra power is being drawn to the fogs?

2. Why wouldn't the engineers allow the fogs to turn on from the factory? Do they know something about the wiring/fuses/battery that we don't?

It's actually part of the guidelines auto companies have to abide by. The theory is you shouldn't be driving in fog with your high-beams on. And it makes sense. Have you ever used high-beams in fog? You can't see shit.

 

Ok, that makes sense. Never thought about that aspect of it. I've used my high's in fog and you're right, can't see anything whatsoever. Now my next thing would be about the amperage... Will it hurt anything as far as battery/alternator to have both on for long periods of time (2+ hours)?

it's the same as running low beams and fogs at the same time. There's no extra power. Now will running them more often mean you have replace the bulbs more often? Possibly. They do wear out. I've had to replace each fog once in the last 4 years. If that's too often, don't do it.

All you have to do is un plug the air bag ground wire harness and then replace it with the new split harness. The split harness just adds the extra wires needed to plug up the cruise. It can only plug in one way so you can't mess it up.

 

Gotcha, that's what I thought but wanted to verify. I do know though that the more you run the lights, the faster they will wear out.

I bought these j type holders from McMaster Carr because i wanted something that would be a lil stronger plus they are coated with vinyl that will protect the rods: http://www.mcmaster.com/#1730a92/=8nxlvg

Parts needed: 2x'J' hooks, 2xScrews (sized to fit pre-drilled holes), 2xwashers, 2xwingnuts
Note: I used my custom Nuts and a 5/16-18 bolts

Finished look:
