My truck is a 2019 trd off road. If I think about 65+ on expressway from jasper to Birmingham there’s zero chance I’ll get anything above 17.5 mpg. The highway is too up and down constantly and never ending downshifting and upshifting. I like the truck because it’s nicer and more modern with technology and such but would rather have the older transmission and the 4.0 at this point. Not getting rid of it but it’s just not anything like the second gen I had.

I’m just not sure how accurate the gas mileage calculator are on these vehicles . Some trips I will show 17-18 mpg, others I will show 21-23 mpg. I even run lower tire pressure than most. Fronts are 32 psi, rears are 28 psi. I run the pressure where “all” the tread just starts hitting the road. Over inflation wears out the center of the tires. When it comes down to it, there are so many variables it’s not even funny . Who knows !?!?!?!
For those of you watching milage all the time , don’t bet on the number that is being displayed while driving. You get your calculated milage on the display after you turn the ignition off .( just saying for those who are not aware)

I agree, I miss my 1981, 1991 and my 2002. My 2018 is really nice and I have learned to love it ,,,,,, but I sure miss the older ones.

a 5 psi increase on my tires shot my MPGs up 2mpgs and they still wear evenly. I've managed to get 21.5 mpgs on the freeway @ 65mph with all my mods.

I've been running 40 psi cold on stock tires on a DCLB with a 200lb shell on it. At 10K miles I measured the tread depth using the depth gauge on my Mitutoyo caliper across the tread at several places around the tire when I rotated the tires last month. The tread depth was very even all the way around with about .2 mm less on the shoulders than the center. If 40 psi is "overinflated" and supposed to wear the center faster, it ain't happening here. The ride is a little harsher at that inflation but it makes a big difference in how it drives on the street and it bumped the mileage a tick or two.

Technology is great but can also drive you crazy,, I try not to look at mpg, when my truck is empty I fill it. I cant control all the variables that effect mpg so I just drive and enjoy my Tacoma. We may not get the best mileage out there but we are certainly driving the best looking trucks out there.

The real sweet spot is going slowly downhill behind an RV for 80 miles!!

Put the cruise at 65mph and turn off AC and put your stock tires on if you still have them. You'll get atleast 20mpg.

I got into a 2016 V6 auto DCLB Taco about a year ago. Unloaded the worst I've seen is 22 in the mountains. Withstanding the mountains it knocks down 24 daily. Bone stock

Ther must be something wrong with mine. I average about 15mpg 70/30 highway/city. Stock tires, sliders, bed cover, and RCI rack. I really feel like I should be doing a whole lot better. I increased my psi to about 33 all around to no avail. Any suggestions? Could it be a bad transmission?
