Entune sux

Any chance we can sue over this crappy Entune system? It sucked when I bought the truck and has half the apps it did after their "updates". The Nav, Traffic and weather are useless. I've been complaining to Toyota and my dealer for years and just keep getting told there is no plan to update Entune to Car play/Android Auto in the existing vehicles. It will be available in the 2020 models. I don't understand why they can't upgrade us. Frustrating I have a couple thousand dollar system and I have to use my phone for Google maps, weather and music, etc. I'm really tempted to purchase the aftermarket Android Auto integration into the existing system but $700-800 is too much.

Check out my build, I replaced the headunit with a Android based one designed to replace the entune system. Has Android auto and car play

 

You can't upgrade due to hardware limitations, doesn't support it. New radios in the newer vehicles have it. Aftermarket will give far more options and just be a better headunit and cheaper than oem. Aftermarket is really your only option, but is like 500+ though. Aftermarket or you're stuck with it

 

Can't sue. You can demand arbitration paid for by Toyota. I won a settlement in my arbitration case.

Just get an android headunit for $350 and call it a day.

You gonna be able to do much more than any head unit Toyota will ever come up with.

Netflix? Games? Movies? Wanna type up a word document?

Longterm reliability though, well we gonna have to find out.

 

Nice thing about this is that all the joying units share the same hardware, its just different cases and screens. So if yours dies, and you want the new best version, just buy it and you can swap the boards and it should work (I will confirm this when the newest chips do come out)

 

Just curious what the grounds for the lawsuit would be. I'm not saying you can or can't sue, and I am not even close to qualified to give legal advice, but I was wondering what the lawsuit would be about.

My only concern was that If I end up keeping this truck for like 10 years or longer, what am I gonna do if or when it craps out and they are no longer in production lol!

 

I had 15 crappy apps when I bought the truck and now I only have 5. And I was told by salesman they were adding more. Just frustrating and I needed to vent. I'm checking out all the suggestions

 

Could you replace it with the new 2020 head unit? What Toyota will charge aside, any word on if that is possible??

 

Dealer said he would let me know if that's possible after they come in. I'm sure that would be crazy money.

 

The new units from what we have heard are JBL ones, so you kinda need the JBL system to start with. Manual transmission though came with non-JBL system, but its unknown if they are the nice new units.
Also, Your looking like $3000 for the new radios.

I think its more of the fact that we were sold entune with a bunch of apps and promises, those apps have been taken away and promises broken... the entune on the tacoma is now a FM radio with a big useless screen.

I never used the apps it came with, so its not a big deal for me, but some people were sold for those features.

 

Just so you know, there is a line in the Entune agreement that says apps can change at any time. Also note, "because a salesman said" will not hold up in court. I was disappointed when they dropped Pandora, but I didn't let it stress me out.

 

I was sold a truck that happened to come with a radio with some apps. If I was buying a vehicle based on the radio and its features, it would not have been a Tacoma. When buying the Tacoma, I didnt even think about the radio features.

Just so you know EULA for Entune mentions only use of the Android app, not the SW on the head unit. There is no EULA for use of head unit SW.

 

More importantly, the head of Toyota marketing called Entune a "stellar platform" and "peerless".

If I were to suggest an angle for arbitration, I would focus on the marketing claims, how it was sold, and what it has become.

A reasonable request for compensation is price of your premium unit vs price of the basic unit. About $1600.
