Can it? Yeah. Would I do it? Nope.

    But that’s me.

    Edit:
If you want to run it on 86/87, tune it for that. If you know what you’re doing, you can set it up to take advantage of the 91/93 when you run it. But I would NOT tune it for 91/93 and rely on the knock control to dial the timing back for use on 86/87.

Tell me more. I doubt I would unless I had to, but am curious as to the capability or not.

The capability and how adaptive the system is really comes down to the calibration and how it’s calibrated. It’s quite flexible, but still has limitations.

Correct. I wouldn't be running a 91/93 tune and running 87 on the regular... That stated I wouldn't have a problem putting 87 in on a 91/93 tune for one tank here n there if absolutely necessary.

I ran @JustDSM n/a 87 tune with 91 with no issues. His 87 tune runs really well and I like it very much but there is definitely more pep with the 91 tune! My truck just runs so much smoother with the 91 tune.

Live and learn. All in all wasn't that expensive of a lesson, hopefully won't have to buy 4 more credits

correct. Id have no problem running higher octane on the regular than a tune was designed for. Its not going to be quite as optimized as it would be if it was tuned for 91/93 but its going to run better.

But like stated if you were tuned for 91/93 and were forced to run 87, i wouldnt have a problem... but i wouldnt be doing any WOT pulls!

Whelp..... @HPTuners you got some problems with your software / internet check cus i just bricked my truck too. Everything was proper, battery charged >12.5v, truck was just running no issues. Went through the same procedure as i always have done ... this time, got about 4-5% and poof, write error: time out.

    FAWWWWWK.

So to get me back up and running.

    1. Buy ecu on ebay for my truck
    2. put in
    3. resync imobilizer
    4. have dealer change vin number?

FYI. This was on Beta 4.5.407.0 which i had previously flashed a tune to the truck a few days ago (before the two others bricked their truck) without issue.

    @S.B. @mightytacoman

    EDIT - @HPTuners ticket #182304 submitted.

EDIT 2 - SO PISSED RIGHT NOW.... truck was running just fine and i literally was changing some trans torque management timing tables for kicks n giggles. sigh.

    Well shit!
Yeah, with teachstream you can write/rewrite the VIN
I guess the diode on mine wasn't the only problem...

The USB cable between the computer is really pretty fragile. I’ve had issues with mine from all the toting around from all the tuning I’ve done.

I noticed that mine would recognize the connection but the slightest tweaking/movement of the USB cable would cause a break in the connection intermittently. And that is enough to brick.

I’d recommend giving the USB a thorough check.

I have a cable I ONLY use for flashing and another that I use for transport/general use/etc to keep my flashing USB cable pristine.

Bricked mine with the latest version. I download it right before and it happened earlier today. 12.9 V prior to flash.

Yikes. There has to be a better way to do this no? Maybe someone can make some heavy duty usb cables? I want an hptuner but sure as hell don’t wanna brick my ecu

For me the USB cable is brand new/the one it came with, highly doubt that that's the problem

    It's a USB-A to USB-C cable.

When I noticed mine had some connection issues, I picked up the standard replacement from Summit Racing (as they're in "my neighborhood", and in stock) but truth be told, I'd suggest finding a heavier duty cable to use between the MPVI2/Computer as you mentioned.
