2.0 87 doesn't hold 6th on the highway as well as 91 base 1.05, for me (stock truck). Yes, I submitted my opinion.

 

Unless toyota secretly dropped a new TSB, you’ll have a supported ecu

 

I know it will be supported, but could a 2019 need to be updated prior to OVT to get the best experience? Some of the posts in this thread make it seem that way. It may have only been directed to earlier 3rd gens, but wasn't clear. Also trying to decide if I should hold off for the handheld or buy now in which case I would also need to buy a laptop... decision decisions.

 

Handheld... unless you want to log. That’s assuming you HAVE to buy a laptop for this only.

 

I don't have to buy a laptop necessarily, I could use my work laptop. But I would rather have a dedicated device in the truck just in case I need it for some reason. I agree, I think holding off for the handheld is the way to go which can store the stock tune plus others that can be flashed for quick switching... very nice, much like, great success. Thanks OVTune!

 

It was the 16s that required one. Everything since then is optional

 

I'm having trouble flashing the software. Anyone know why I cant click on the P5Flash Utility? Its grayed out. Do i have to connect the laptop to my truck first?

Maybe 1 or 2 times in the first drive. Did not notice it today. Seemed to shift really well and hold the lower gear/higher RPM much petter if going up a hill and on turns. Still gotta get more time on it. Maybe some settling?

 

I think it may be settling. I find it amazing I can hold 6th gear uphill and when I press the gas it has power to spare in 6th (65mph or higher & 4.88’s)

 

2.0 is a completely different tune. Stay on the pedal and don’t feather it like you did on previous tunes. Let the EROM do it’s thing.

 

Which tune are you running 87 or 93?

 

I had the same thing happen too. Try performing an update to the OV tune software and restarting the computer and truck. It may take a couple tries... GL!

 

Alright here is a longer post of sorts. I have been an OVTune owner since the beginning purple dongle and all.

As of a couple days ago I was running 04B02 and 1.05.1. It was a good tune, by far the best yet in that last series of tunes. Prior to 2.0 I would still say that 1.03 was my favorite of all the tunes. 1.05.1 did fix many issues, but it still didn't have the "feel" of 1.03 or many of the other vehicles that I have driven or have access to. I learned to cope with where the downshifts and up shifts would be pedal wise. I had to learn to drive it like a normal vehicle. (Cars I have access to or drive often are the 2019 Acura RDX, 2019 Acura ILX, 2016 BMW X3, 2015 Honda CRV, 2008 Acura TSX)

Needless to say I didn't think 2.0 would bring that many changes, nor would 04B04 from Toyota. Rather than deal with another stupid Vancouver area dealership I installed Techstream and did the update myself. Pretty easy process which includes double clicking an exe file after setting up Techstream. 04B04 admittedly was a big step forward, I should have done it earlier... but once again the dealerships are a pain.

*If you decide to do the update, please hook the truck up to your trickle charger in advance and turn off all electronics plus get your laptop ready. Ensure no interruptions from Windows Update or Anti Virus software.
*I did use Techstream to clear all learned values from the engine and transmission

After installing 2.0 I took the truck for a test drive. I've gotta say @OVTune , Mat you have done wonders with the tune. I can just hit the pedal and the truck acts predictable. It accelerates normally and the gear hunting randomness is basically non existent. I know it is a beta, but if you can fine tune it even more I think you've finally solved the problem.

My gas mileage increase was quite noticeable and my wife said "hey the truck seems quieter"

 

Work has been super-busy, so it's taken me until today to do my first OVTUNE.

Wow! What a difference it's made so far! I went from the crappy factory "tune" to the OVTUNE 04B31, 1.05.1, 91 octane, Base. In ~100 miles driven; much smoother & crisper shifts, and with a bit higher revs between gears 1 - 4. The throttle lag is gone, and the truck is "reporting" a gas mileage improvement of approx 3-4 mpg (I'll have to do the mileage calculations myself, before I'm convinced.)

I had the Nitro-Gear re-gearing done (4.88's) which made a significant difference with the "constant finding gears" at highway speeds, when passing, and especially on hill climbs.

So far, the re-tuning feels like it's fixed the throttle lag and lower speed/lower gear shifting issues!
