If its a kit from TRS I have the same issues and I have gone back and forth with their warranty claims person. I think its the cheap connectors on their harness not properly seating in the ballast housings. When Zack and I installed the HID kit from The Retrofit Source we had to cut the silicone boots around the connectors just to get them in.

When I turn the headlights on and one doesn't fire I turn the lights back off, pop the hood and undo/redo the connections and that does the trick. Its a pain in the ass but at least it makes my headlights work.

Giant and Cannondale are good brands! I am not a huge fan of trek but that is personal preference.

I also recommend buying used as you can get more for the money. Stay away from square taper cranks (which in your price range, bikes 99% of the time wont have); also a nice bonus is a threaded bottom bracket instead of press-fit! I am a personal fan of Shimano drivetrains and Fox suspension. Smooth operation and never had issues out of either. Check out craigslist around Huntsville, Chatt, Knox and Atlanta as there are always some good hardtails for sale. Also you can check out the classifieds section on pinkbike: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/

I think everyone should start out on a hardtail to learn technical skills; too many people spend $4000 on a fancy full suspension bike thinking it will make them a good rider but they ride like gorilla's

Try to get a bike with boost spaced hubs because all new bikes are going that direction so the aftermarket will be much better and its a superior hub design for rigidity.
1X drivetrain's are great because its less moving components and less weight.
Depending on your size/weight determines my answer for wheel size. I am 6'4" so 29er is really the only thing I will ever ride. If you're smaller 27.5" is "the best of both worlds" and 26 is dead.

    Still...

I know you too well. You’ll have 37’s within 18 months at the latest. I’d be willing to bet it’s 12 months

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
But what will be next? Land Cruiser, GX460, Tundra, Tacoma again, Challenger Hellcat?

I could have done it in half the time too, but that wasn't the point. I'll come to you when I get ready to fit 40s with a solid front axle.

Looks like a fairly clean late 80’s land cruiser. It’s been sitting on a little car lot called ZI auto sales, haven’t bothered to stop but I’ve seen it moved around the lot a couple time so it seems like it runs.
