    Nice structure .

You want a reality check , have a look at the end of those boards and count growth rings , more than likely thats all from BC , we're still dropping 1000 year old cedars here .

It’s a chicken coop, it’s off the grid right now, running off a Tesla Powerwall2. It’s part of a larger project, barn, studio and main house. It was designed to fit in with the other buildings.

These boards were originally cut from a 6x14 clear cedar timber to be blanks for a couple curved barge boards on a job I was doing years ago but the client decided against the curved barges and gave me the boards

    Thanks
Definitely some guilt involved, 1x10’s were not cheap or easy to come by. We used 2x10’s for the jambs, I was told at first that they weren’t even available.

I struggle with the ethics of it all the time , which is part of why I almost never throw any left over lumber away lol , hence my lumber hoard haha

Just a bit of background. I have over 20+ years in the construction trades and like most with such experience, I am constantly asked by friends to do projects for them in my spare time. A good friend of mine finally talked me into updating a rental property for her that her son was going to move into.

The condo was built in 1972 and has never been thoroughly updated. It had the old dark original "Legacy" doors and time. For those not familiar with Legacy; it was a vinyl wrapped wood trim that was dark brown almost black and had a matching prefinished door. My only conditions were that she buy all the materials and let me hire one carpenter helper and that she would do the painting and haul away the trash. She agreed and here is the transformation.

Old harvest gold appliances and laminate butcher block counters - true 70's era (note microwaves were not even a thought then)
    condo kit1.jpg kit 2.jpg

New counters, floors, lighting, trim work, tile work and newer slightly used appliances (she bought a refrigerator with the wrong swing - cannot be changed but the price was right).

    kitchen condo 1.jpg

Bathroom was rough but turned out great. Fixed the leaks, replaced the cement board, sealed the walls and retiled the walls.

    condo bath 1.jpg shower1.jpg

Pulled down all the doors and hung new doors, recased the doors and replaced the base throughout.

Changed most of the light fixtures, replaced smoke detectors. Updated the electrical by adding GFCI's in the kitchen and baths and a 20amp circuit for the microwave. New paint on all the walls and updated the carpet. It took about 2 weeks and was really low buck.

I wondered when I saw the screening used and the I assumed photovatalic solar panels. Nice structure!

Excellent helper and some long hours. The job ran very smooth and my help and I didn't have to haul trash or paint or lay the carpet.

Thanks we think it turned out looking pretty good also.

Well that was pretty awesome of you! I love the before and after pictures, especially when it’s someone with skill and experience.

All my stuff is diy and although it usually looks decent to us and others, there is always a big difference when it’s done by an actual pro!

My most recent project a custom desk cabinet for a fitness studio. They wanted a small desk area and a file cabinet plus some storage in their lobby. All finished in lacquer, now just waiting on the top to make the final adjustments for the doors.

I'm excited to see some of what's been done in this thread. I got my first miter saw a couple weeks ago and built myself a workbench, my first woodworking project ever.

and I'm going to soon build my nephew a sand/water picnic table for his 1 year birthday, something similar to this:

I know it's nothing fancy, but I really enjoyed building that workbench and I'm looking forward to building the picnic table.

Just a novice learning and loving it.

I cannot believe some of the things I've found in this thread scrolling through.
