It might be different regionally, but locally for me all dealers will take orders. They involve a $500 refundable deposit. Trucks can be ordered to your specifications, as long as its a model Toyota builds. IE you can order a DCSB in QS with MT, sun roof, ETC, but you cant order a DCLB MT. If you decide not to purchase the dealer usually keeps the truck to sell to someone else, its just an allocation for them. I've ordered before and backed out after they were able to secure the same model a few weeks later through dealer trade.

Also, as far as orders currently, they can be taken and then fulfilled once Toyota allows orders to be placed. Usually in September.

I ordered my '18 DCLB with the options I wanted from Manhattan Beach Toyota. The proviso was that they had to have an allotted vehicle, in my case, in BBP color that had not yet been built at the factory. They had one truck allotted and I waited about 10 weeks for it but I got it exactly how I wanted it. The key is that the dealer has to have the base vehicle in that color as part of their allotment.

As has been said, they cannot "custom" order a truck for you. But Toyota builds basically every combo of truck eventually, so they can request when that truck is built that it gets allocated/sent to the dealer because they have a customer waiting to buy it. Because it isn't a custom order, you basically are just at the mercy of waiting for them to make the truck, whenever that is. Depending how specific or uncommon the build is, and a bit of luck, it could come in a couple weeks or take months.

No exact pricing but was told $500-$800 more then the 19’ list pricing, basically 2-3%.
They have allocations for the 2020 Tacoma with the starting date of built September 16.
The dealer did not say anything about no quicksand color available on 2020’s.
    I’ll keep everyone posted.

If that is all the increase is, it's not too bad considering all the upgrades they are adding.

That's a little scary. The 4runner MSRP increased by like $2700 for no good reason

Yes, maybe a little. But life is a gamble. The new Rav4 had a $400 increase vs the last model year. And I am set on getting a Taco.
After a testdrive I had a couple of gripes. The seat hight and head unit being the most important ones. An lo and behold, those are two things they've addressed on the 2020.
The dealer has been treating me fairly so I don't think they will pull a fast one. And if worst come to worst, I can always revert back to a 2019 they will surely still have in stock if I can't stomach the price difference.
I has been a long wait though. And you can only look at pictures on this forum for so long. I have to say that the anticipation as part of the experience too for me.
Funny enough, I've also switched colours a couple of times is my mind, Quicksand, Cement, Cavalry and back again. So even if they decide to cancel Quicksand (which I highly doubt) I won't be loosing any sleep over it.

Not true. My original Tacoma was built for me. Some dealerships do this with toyota. Some don’t. I had the build sheet and watched progress from Mexico to Colorado. I had to put a few thousand down for them to order it for me and it took a couple months.

You can look at it however you like.

There is a finite number of configuration options. You can request a particular build but your custom build isn’t really custom. It’s just a SKU they planned to build anyway.

Of course. They were not creating a new configuration for me. The point is the configuration I wanted didn’t exist on any lot at the time. The dealer couldn’t trade for it, so they ordered it. In my case it was a white DCLB OR premium tech package with no Tonneau and this clean bed rails.

Same here. In May of 2018 my dealer did a search in the configuration that I wanted, Inferno DCLB Sport Premium/Tech package and it was nowhere to be found at that time. So I put down a $500 deposit to have the truck built. Twelve weeks later it arrived.
