Okay guys I’ve had a problem similar to this before where I was unable to switch between 2wd and 4wd and the green light in the dashboard was constantly flashing. The dealer claimed my 6” bds lift was causing something to bind and make it unable to switch. After about 3 trips to the dealer they finally fixed the issue that was about 6 months ago. Today I went to do some off-roading with friends when I attempted to switch my truck into 4h and was shown this message. Not only are the modes unusable but I can’t clear the message from my screen. Any advice?

take it to a mechanic for another opinion. it's hard to diagnose a truck based on a picture and some words.

Mine blinked and wouldn't engage the other day when I needed it. Did not have the failure notice like in the pic. I use my 4H everyday and it has only happened once. Concerned me but am waiting until it happens again to take it a dealer. If it doesn't happen sooner then I will mention at the next free service.

Curious if others ever experienced the flashing green light.

What'd u do to get to this screen? U say u couldn't clear it but there's a back arrow on the top right that should clear it. Frequently the truck wont enter 4hi at a low speed. For me it takes switching back and fourth. We need aot more details.

I can clear the code on my screen but it just reappears seconds later. I have been having issues with mine. Randomly the rear locker light just started flashing sometimes. Like it's an electrical problem. Now that light wasnt on but the (!) Is on with it saying 2wd to 4wd mode isnt working. And I didnt even try to use 4wd I only just started the truck.

It’s like the other dude said. Take it to place to be looked at, either a different dealer or a well vetted mech. It could be something stupid like you just need to go in reverse to unbind or there can be something not connected right. Then the extreme of something like the transfer case being damaged. No ones going to be able to tell with out being able to test it.

When I had a 2018 OR I got a blinking light a lot when putting it into 4h, if it took to long, I’d just roll forward or backward little and it would usually kick on, then N and shift to 4L....wait and if it didn’t kick on, put it in drive and it would usually shift over.

Modifies truck well beyond what it was designed to do. Then wonders why things stop working the way they were designed to work...

So a little info. The flashing light is 'normal' when the actuator is having trouble cycling into position. However that error screen is displayed generally when an electrical issue is detected in the actuator, which is why it is essentially instantaneous. Truck has given up and failsafe locked out all mode changes.

Several possible issues can cause it, but chances are it is internally a bad connection in either actuator, or the wires to them (chomp chomp chomped).

Another possibility is if the actuator has been placed into an 'undefined' position past it's normal range of motion, but that is unlikely unless you failed to tell us that somebody was messing with or removed the actuators.

If you want to diagnose, it will take Techstream or a multimeter (or maybe both).

If it were I, i would shut off the truck, take my meter and check both actuators against the expected values in the thread below.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4wd-actuator-troubleshooting-transfer-case-and-add.578262/

Based on the error message, you are looking for an open coil or a set of feedback wiper resistance readings that isnt a valid combo per the tables.

If you do try to troubleshoot, recommend starting a new thread.
If you aren't up for using a meter or techstream, then stop and find a friend, mechanic, or dealer who is.

Found out the installer of my gear kit had a loose connection. All soldered up and working flawlessly. Tested it on my trip and no glitches.

I had 5.29s and a front ARB locker installed, 3 months later I got the '2wd 4wd mode change failure' message. Below is a copy of what the dealer wrote up, I hope that helps
