I have never been witness to this, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. Aside from being illegal, it's dangerous AF.

Who is Sue? Are you sure you are entitled to not like her? So many questions. But lots of good answers.

So, realistically, does the time, stress, expense, and labor of pursuing a claim against toyota outweigh the $300-500 cost of a replacement head unit? o_O

I mean, I get the frustration. I'm not a fan of entune, and the head unit is buggy and prone to crashing occasionally, even with updates.

But practically, when it comes to making the situation right, my first thought tends to be "buy an Alpine." This isnt the fight I want to spend my limited resources fighting over.

Start a class action suit. I'll join because I have a 72 Malibu that has an 8-track player and no one is making music on those either. :D:D:D

I understand your frustration, but that is the case with electronics that a newer and better will always be coming out and car electronics are notoriously behind even when they are new. I bought a new Acrua TL in 2013 that had their tech package. It had an internal hard drive that you could copy CDs to. Only problem was that CDs were on their way out and even if you had CDs, you had to essentially play the cds to be copied which took forever. Not to mention that they were not MP3s so they took up a lot of space. Toyota isn't the only one with this problem.

The cost to Toyota to settle an arbitration claim without paying for an arbitration hearing is about $2000.

The cost of losing an arbitration hearing exceeds $4700.

They won't lose every hearing, but owners who purchased between June 2018 and Nov 2018 are in a real sweet spot because there are Toyota memos regarding a decision to save money and remove features shifting marketing away from promoting Entune.

Buyers who purchased before cant argue that Toyota knowingly promoted a product they knew would not perform as described. The memo proves they had not made a decision prior to June.

Buyers who purchased after that date range did so knowing that features were not included and Toyota had a script by then to disclose the changes. Toyota will argue that any discount reflected the buyers consideration for removal of advertised apps.

Whatever issues I had with the power train, I'm over it now. Maybe I'm used it or the computer really does learn how you drive, but it seems pretty smooth now and I do not notice it.

    The Entune however, fucking hell.
I just use my phone over blue tooth for everything. The GPS on the entune is worthless and limited. The weather is stupid. It says it's 87 degrees in Centennial Colorado. That's nice, EXCEPT I'M IN AURORA COLORADO!
The traffic update is slow as hell. "heavy traffic on HWY 285 would you like to re-route?" . Um ok? Where is the traffic? I just coasted downhill easy peasy.

As far as music playback, it annoys me it always defaults to "random/shuffle" when I want t listen to an album, and when I do want random/reshuffle it always keeps playing the same 4 songs like after every 3 songs.

Not gonna lie. Wish they would just update the software if our hardware could handle the updates. But I mount my phone on dash. Got it all there. I’m good. I’m happy.

i gutted my entire system in 18 Pro. Installed a 5 channel RF amp, RF Punch 10" Sub, RF seperates in the front and RF coax in rear doors. Entune headunit feeding my RF amp was horrible. After a few months of "tolerating" the crappy sound and functionality, i replaced the headunit with a new Kenwood DMX905s.. all is right with the world!

The Entune apps in my truck rival those on the LG flip phone I had in high school in terms of usability, speed, modern-ness, hell even graphics. I tried using the Destination Search one, once, only to find out it wasn't on speaking terms with the Nav system. Only time I've sworn at my truck. They're a joke really, and to top it off they're dropping like flies.

My solution? I don't let it stress me out. The audio system works great, the factory GPS is perfect for long trips where I want to conserve phone data, and I honestly forget the app suite is even there still until I get on TacomaWorld and see a post like this. I enjoy the truck immensely. It's not the sales guy's fault that the outdated app suite sucks.

That being said I might try and snag a used CarPlay unit when some 2020 owner goes aftermarket..

So did you do this and get money? I bought my truck in October 2018 and really don't have a problem with the system, as it was not one of the features I was looking for, but for a couple thousand dollars I could play a game.
How much time and effort would be involved though, because my time is valuable. I mean, I can make 1,000 dollars in a week just doing side jobs after work, so would it be worth it?

I put in allot of time knowing it was an uphill battle.

My goal was to precisely document my process, and had I won my arbitration case, I would have done so.

I am very limited in what I can say regarding details of my case. I am allowed to speak in general terms as I have done.

It would not have been worth it if I had gone through with arbitration, but I settled before that.

The state you live in plays a very important role. States like California and Washington scare Toyota. I live in Austin, which I believe made it scary for Toyota because they would have been compelled to provide testimony since the burden of travel was not undue.
