Anyone had any luck with an aftermarket head unit that will work with a JBL system?

I've seen multiple threads on different head units but all of them seem to have some sort of issues when trying to install it in a taco with a stock JBL Entune head unit. I was hoping someone had figured something out or found a compatible head unit.

I did run into a unit that looked promising. Went on their Amazon page and asked if it would work and the seller says it will. Not sure if anyone has tried it yet.

What are you trying to accomplish. All aftermarket headunits will work. Depends what features you want and what you're trying to retain from the factory features, steering wheel controls, cam, etc. Amp and speakers don't change anything, headunit just plugs right in

That's my goal. But apparently there is an issue with the JBL head unit being a bit different and the audio cuts out for a couple of minutes every 20 minutes or so because of the amp.

Can go aftermarket like Kenwood, jvc, etc. And use a maestro unit to maintain steering wheel controls and cam. Plug and play. Usually need to pay for more add ons depending on what you need, Sirius, etc. Will do audio and video, just a better unit than what's currently in the truck. They also haven't changed the screen res in 15 years from 800x480 on the majority of units, even the 2k alpine one.
Or can order an android headunit with a can bus controller, joying, pumpkin, etc. Again plug and play. And all controls work. The android setup will do most things an android tablet will do and kind of unlimited options since the Google play store and apps. More of a learning curve since there is lots more you can do. Add ons cheap. Higher res screens. Makes a big difference. More options out the box like, Wi-Fi, 4g, etc. Might be a little more of an install since you may have to change brackets or do more adjustments. Can be a little finicky at times, os wise. But that's android in general.
I looked at a 7" jvc with the maestro and dash kit and adapters was around 600 with everything.
I just ordered a 9" android one with brackets for like 330.
They both work with factory and aftermarket amps. You get full pre outs
The sound boards on these are actually really decent, plus get full eq adjustments. Worlds cleaner sound than the oem headunit
I've run the android ones for the last 4 years in my jeeps and soon the taco. So I'm a fan. Again either will work for you, just what are your needs. The audio cutout is usually because people cram the harnesses and wires behind the headunit so when you put it in, it will bend and pull on the pins in the harness plug on the back of it.

This doesn't seem true with the "upgraded" JBL system in OP's Tacoma. It has to do with the amp and speakers in the JBL system being 2 ohms causing the amp to overheat and cut off ever 10-20 minutes. There is a thread in the audio section and a user here seems to be getting close but I don't know. Fingers crossed as I want this pos entune unit out ASAP
