Here's some pics of the flap that might clarify. I think it's there to provide somewhat of a buffer to help keep rain running down the back of the tent from the interior. If the gutter fills too fast there's nothing to keep it from the interior without this flap.

The 1up is an awesome rack, and if I didn’t have a prodeal on the Yakima, I would have gone that route for sure.

The HoldUp evo does hold the bike very secure, and I don’t get much movement from the bike. It does not have a way to adjust the bikes to be farther from the truck though. I am assuming that Yakima designed the rack to be higher in the back than by the hitch to increase departure angle (especially with the 4 bike version), but it does lean the bikes into the truck a bit.

 

This could be a option as long as it is threaded to hold the insert tight.

Or I can just drill a handlebar hole in the Go Fast....

 

Even better, get a swing out hitch. It'll give you some extra space and it's clutch when camping. My rack attach one came with an anti-wobble plate.

That is a good call! I may have to wait and see if it fits once I get my go fast, then order this if it doesn’t. Still hoping someone with a GFC and similar mountain bike hitch rack will chime in.

 

So i have a tacoma, 1up rack and threw my hightower LT with 800mm bars on the rack. Sadly even with the infinite adjustability of the 1up rack the bars were still only about 1-2 inches away from rear window of the gfc and with the sway of the bike the bars would make contact. I ended up just throwing a hitch extender on there and it works great. I also have a swingout that i use on longer bike trips

 

If it helps, my bike clears my snugtop shell with plenty of room. I have the rack attach and a 1up rack (mounted as close to the truck as possible).

 

Got any pics? Does your tailgate clear the 1up tray with the rack attach?

 

Good to know, thanks. I am going to assume that I will end up needing some sort of extension to make my rack work.

My rack does clear my current topper as well with enough space so it doesn’t make contact, just want to be prepared for the go fast in October.

A little hard to see in this pic (it is the only one I have), but it clears my top by a few inches.

 

No pics since the shell is off in preparation for my drifter. The tailgate opened just fine with the rack in the horizontal (bike carrying) position, but I almost always had it swung out to the side once bikes were off.

 

I love the idea of a 1up rack, but if I had their model that fits a standard mtb, I can't fit my fat bike, let alone my road bike (especially as it has fenders).

My sister has a 6 bike North Shore Rack on a swing out hitch mount. The bikes are mounted front wheel up and toward the vehicle, so they are no wider than their Sprinter van and only stick out a few feet. If I had a family and needed to have more than a couple bikes, this is the one I would want.

These vertical racks are great ... until you want to go off-road and everything on the trail wants to rip the bikes and rack off your truck. Low departure angle. Bikes sit higher than the top of the truck... A Sprinter is a few feet wider than my truck and about eighty billion feet taller.

 

I have the expansion tray for a fat bike on one of my trays. It fits standard mtb and road bike tires just fine.

These vertical racks are great and I honestly wish I had gotten one sometimes due to the compact design (trail limo is long enough without 4 bikes on the back!). However, the northshore rack holds bikes by the fork crown so they definitely cannot take a road bike. I've also seen them rub some paint off of fork crowns, which I don't like. I'd look at Alta racks (https://www.altaracks.com/) or Recon racks (http://recon-racks.com/).

 

This is a big reason I got rid of my north shore rack. I almost had a bike ejected going through a dip (nothing crazy), and me and some friends recovered a brand new Pivot laying in the middle of the road that was ejected from another friend's north shore rack without them even realizing it.

 

Well, I stand corrected. Although I swear I put a road bike on their NS rack once. They had it on a Quigley Sportsmobile for a while, and now on a 4x4 Sprinter. I know they've taken it off road a bunch, and don't think they've ever had a problem ejecting a bike. That does not sound like a good time.

Of course, they are driving out from Idaho now so I asked what they have and she says they have a 1up now, as well

 

I don't have my GFC, but I have that same Yakima rack - it cleared with my Leer Canopy, and I have 800mm bars. There was enough play/flex that it would occasionally flex and make contact in the bumps but when stationary there was an inch or so gap. So you may not want metal bar ends, but otherwise you should be fine.

Edit just noticed you said you had a topper too, so maybe this isn't helpful. I'll be in the same predicament if so. I'm not super worried about it though, the GFC should sit in a similar place to the topper.

 

mine was fine with old topper too, the gfc has a more square/vertical rear door that was way too close for my comfort. any rough roads and im pretty sure it would have broken the window. with the hitch extender though it works perfect though!

 

What generation Taco are we talking about here, and is this on the stock hitch?

I am surprised your bars are anywhere near the window, especially on a bike that long and w/ 29" wheels.

I run a rockymounts backstage swing away rack, and with 780mm handle bars I have a few inches between the end of the bar and the face of the rear panel hinge material. The 2nd tray obviously is not an issue.



I actually wanted to sell this and get a 1-up rack, but this has me re-thinking that if I am going to have to run a hitch extender.
